Anyone out there with IBS?

I have IBS and it really limits the foods my body tolerates. Curious to see what others do or have tried with success. Right now I can not eat milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, lettuce, corn (in unprocessed form) and several other things.

  • Hey there! I have IBS and I'm very much the same. I have to be extremely careful about what I eat. I can't eat dairy, meat, anything greasy, excess sugar, or salads on their own. I find eating a good source of protein with everything helps. For example, I get painful cramping when I eat salad on it's own, or cheese pasta or something, but if I put boneless, skinless chicken with it, my body has a better time managing it. I also drink a lot of herbal teas with my meals, as it helps with the digestion. Add me if you want to talk some more :)

I have it. I struggled with it my whole life. But since I made the dietary changes I have made, I have zero problems anymore. It has been the best thing that ever happened to me! I used to plan my life around my IBS almost, and now I feel like a normal person!

    Cutting gluten helps me tremendously.

I have IBS which has gotten much better after changing my lifestyle. I no longer eat wheat products, I cannot eat salads alone but like someone said above I add proteins which helps my body out big time. I also stay away from caffeine, high sugar products and anything greasy!

Do you guys find that cutting out toxic chemicals have helped - no toxic cleaning products, use eco-friendly detergent, reduce allergens in general...?

I have IBS-D and was on a bulking agent for two years until I joined WW last year, lost weight and realized with healthier eating I had almost no trouble. Being on MFP has been even better.

Triggers for my are nuts or grapes in excess, chocolate, fried foots and basically anything with a skin or seed that irritates the intestines. As long as I eat them sparingly, I am fine. I could never drink milk, but I use almond milk now and it gives me no problem.

If you are still experiencing symptoms, talk to your GI doc about Questran. it is a powder you sprinkle on food or mix in your drink one to three times a day (depends on person) to help bulk things up and reduce the D. It was a miracle drug for me.

As long as I eat healthy now I have few problems. I have learned that if I am not getting enough fat in my diet, I will even get constipated now. I use olive oil in my smoothies, on veggies and on popcorn to get a little extra added good fat.

  • I have Crohn's and it is almost identical to IBS. We have a lot of the same diet restrictions and symptoms.

I have IBS and have been able to manage it by taking Trader Joe's pure psyllium husk every day. I can eat basically anything now although I still limit dairy a lot. I used to not be able to eat raw items like fruits and veggies and whole grains, which hurt my desire to eat healthy and lose weight. I can eat all that now. If I skip psyllium for a few days, the ibs starts coming back.
