Non processed foods on an odd schedule

Options
I work 11:30am to 10pm five days per week which makes it very difficult to cook real food. By the time I get home from work all I want to do is throw something in the microwave and be able to eat in less than 5 minutes (since I usually eat very little or nothing while at work). Things are a little better on days that I do not work but at the same time, those are the days that I am unable to find stuff to do to stop me from constantly eating. I desperately need some help. 90% of what I eat is processed and I want to change that. Any advice would be great!!

Cook up a tuna bake, it keeps for a few days:

Tuna+veggies+sour cream (or chopped tomato if you're avoiding fat), cover with grated cheese and bake until golden.

It's my staple if I know time is tight. Just microwave it from the fridge. You can lob pasta in there too but that's not part of my plan right now.

A Frittata works too ... Eggs+Cream+Veggies+Sweet Potato+Cooked Chopped Sausages, cover with grated cheese and bake.

Other than that I always have some boiled eggs to hand and will have these with salad.

Cutting the processed stuff means some planning but I find it's worth doing.

If you get a good lunch full of vegies you can get away with breakfast for dinner, porridge or eggs.
Otherwise steamed vegetables don't take long. Try not to get vegies that require destringing (string beans, snow peas), podding or peeling.
Suggestions - Pre-washed potatoes, pumpkin, stringless beans, corn, spinach, silver beet, frozen peas or beans.
Putting a chop in the grill is quick too, throw half a tomato on while you're at it.
Of course if it's still hot where you are throw a salad together.
Lettuce, tomato, cucumber, beets, salad onion, cheese, olives and some sliced meat.

You might have seen this tip before, but it's a great time-saver to prepare meals on your day off, then freeze individual portions to reheat during the workweek. This works well for soups, casseroles, meats, veggies, almost anything. It may not be fun to spend your days off cooking a week's worth of meals, but it sure helps you stay away from processed foods when you're busy!

Invest in a slow cooker or maybe start making your own frozen meals that you can just reheat quickly on your own? This requires you take a day on the weekend for prep but it will help you cut out the processed foods...here are some recipes

    "DUMP" CHICKEN & GRAPES

    1 1/2 Pounds Chicken Pieces -- (4 to 6)
    1/2 cup apple juice
    1 teaspoon chicken bouillon

Eat healthy foods while you're at work. Grab a handful of nuts, some dried cranberries, fruits, veggies with hummus. Then you won't be so hungry when you get home and will be able to spend a little more time cooking. Drink a douple if gkasses of water when you get home to curb hunger. I make delicious healthy food every night from scratch and it rarely takes me longer than 30min. Check out bbcgoodfood.com

If you get organized and prep your food ahead of time you can do it. It really is worth the effort.

As you've said you find it hard to keep yourself occupied when you're not at work to keep you from constantly eating, why don't you use that time to prepare some wholesome real food and freeze it. Spend that time creating recipies you love and that are healthy. Then when you get back from work and you can't be bothered to stand and cook (like many of us) you can grap something out the freezer (or that morning if you remember) and bung it in the microwave when you get back.

My personal favourite is getting out a pre-grilledchicken breast or port loin chop and putting a bag of microwavable steamed veg with it... yum yum!

    Good luck x

Do you have kids? if not than why not shift your daytime pattern to fit more around your job?... you work the same time as me pretty much (i leave my house at 7.30am and get back at around 7pm) and i still manage to cook all my meals, work out, run a company (that isn't my main job) socialise etc.... why not shift your day pattern to come home, work out, cook, watch some TV, go to bed at more like 2am and then get up at 9am?

If you get into a regular routine than fitting in a bit of time each day to cook isnt a chore?
