Hi..I guess Im a little confused about what my daily calorie intake should be. ( my diary is open)..I hear that i should burn more calories than i take in, but have heard other things as well..Im just starting exercising and it is pretty slow and moderate until I get better endurance, I plan on moving forward to harder workouts...I take a multi-vitamin..Does anyone have advice? thanks

Well you're certainly not eating enough looking at the last few days! No wonder you have no endurance for your workouts.

MFP already puts you at a deficit so you should be eating the 1.300 odd that it has you set at not the 300-500 you eat most days!

When you exercise if you use a heart rate monitor then you can eat all your exercise calories back as it's an accurate measure, if you use MFP's estimations then I'd eat up to 50% back as it often over estimates what you burn.

Seriously though you're really not eating enough.

I concur. You are WAY under. When you exercise, your body needs fuel. Its needs fuel even if you don't, but you have to eat. Is it that you are running out of time and don't cook? Are you not hungry or forget to eat? You need to at least double and some days triple what you have been eating.
I also wonder if you are eating more and maybe forgetting to log it?

You have to burn more than you eat to lose weight. But it has to be a healthy deficit - too high and you'll see negative side effects (even though the scale may read smaller numbers).

On a related note, the deficit is all that is necessary to lose weight (assuming no heath issues). You can reach a deficit with no exercise at all, or you can get there with a combination of diet and exercise. Exercise has other benefits as well, but it's not required for weight loss.

To figure out what your daily intake should be, either use MFP (but understand how it works with calorie goals, exercise, and weight loss goals), or use one of hte TDEE estimators (google them) and set your daily goal to something like TDEE - 10%.
  • thanks for all of the advice. I havent seen much of a change in scale last 4 days or so, and yes, I log everything I eat, even the bad choices..I sure dont want to lose muscle weight. Want to lose the fat weight. Once again, thank you for your advice. I will be doing more research and looking at another website...and yes, am tired....I see why now..
  • I just finished my food diary for the day. I havent had dinner yet, but I know what I will be having. Too many carbs? any suggestions, advice, let me know please..I am going grocery shopping for some veggies though(looks really bleak in that area) and have already upped my calories today and I feel SOO much better! Much appreciated all..
