BMR.....a bit confused.

I've been reading a lot of posts about not eating below your BMR, so I went to fat2fitradio and calculated mine. According to where I am now, and where I would like to be, it advised that I eat 1801 calories a day. That just seems crazy high to me! I had already decided to up my calories to 1600/day because 1200/day makes me feel lethargic and I just cannot see myself eating that low permanently. Can someone give me some advice on this? I'm a SAHM, so I'm on my feet and busy most of the day...as far as working out goes, I'm a walker and I like to get 30 minutes in @3 times a week. I do not do strength training at this time. So, I checked the "sedentary" box when I did the calculation....thanks in advance for your help! Is 1600 a good goal?

Did you put your weight loss goal on here at 2 lb/week? I think 1600 is fine for a couple of days, then try 1500, then try 1400. When I lost my original weight, I would often eat around 1500 and still consistently lost with exercise.

I lost most of my weight eating between 1800-2000 calories total.

Just remember if you go by the fat2fitradio calculations, you include your exercise into your daily goal so you wouldn't eat back exercise calories... you'd eat the same every day.

BUT... a stay at home mom who's on her feet and busy all day is NOT sedentary.

I agree with Lorina. I used the same calculator but use lightly active. I've got a desk job, but also a 4 year old, a dog, a cat, and a husband that acts like a 4 year old most of the time lol. I eat around 1800 calories a day, and have lost 18 pounds in three months. The last time I lost weight I ate an even 2000 a day and lost 30 pounds before I gave up. 1800 is not an unreasonable number at all. Plus you get to EAT!!
