Losing fat, not muscle

Hey all

I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on body fat calipers? I looked on amazon and there are a ton for < $20 but I wanted to see if anyone has had experience with a set that they would recommend.

I'm also starting to get serious about my eating. My #s:

27 y/o
5'10"
192 lbs
18% BF (I believe)

I want to get down to the 15% range and then the 12% range.

I work out about 4-5 times per week. Mon/Wed/Fri I do a fairly intense plyometric workout that combines upper and lower body. On Tu/Th I've been doing Yoga (Vinyasa and Astanga ) which has really helped my back/body in general feel rejuvenated.

I just started logging my meals on an myfitnesspal using the Android app and hope to have a really clear idea of what it is that I need to clean up. I have traditionally eaten very well so I'm not sure why I am struggling so bad to lose the fat. If anyone feels like helping, I'll post my typical meal plan here as well.

I guess what I'm looking for in response to this post is:
1.) Can anyone recommend a good set of body fat calipers
2.) Anyone willing to check out my diet and provide some commentary?

Thanks all!

Most calipers are the same.. just look what has good reviews. You need to make your diary public so we can see it.

    Thanks psulemon

I think I made it public, but I am very new to this....

I literally just started logging today, so perhaps the diet answers need to come a little later?

I just want to start putting myself on the right track!

I have another question. I get late night hungers (eating cereal at nighttime was one of my worst problems -but I've stopped that). Should I just go to bed hungry or is there a "good snack" to eat late?

If you have enough calories left you can eat in the middle of the night if you want to and can sleep on a full tummy - it makes no difference...

    ^ Read that.

    Eyeball job on my part:

Set intake to the following and do not eat back exercise calories in this specific case because this is an exercise inclusive estimate:

    2100 kcal
    160p
    70f
    210c

You can increase p/f and decrease c to personal preference.

Do not fear late night eating provided that you are not exceeding caloric recommendation. The actual effect of eating at night is not harmful to net fat loss.

Lastly, this assumes you are weighing and measuring food quantity and actually eating close to that recommendation. Many people estimate their portions and end up overeating considerably.

Might I add, make sure you are getting enough protein in your evening meal. protein takes longer to digest and therefore it'll take longer before you get hungry.

    Thanks Steel

I will check out tomorrow and start mapping this thing out.

I've always thought that high protein wasn't good because I don't "do enough" to burn it off.

I have a lot of reading to catch up on....

That's a great point, echoing what my wife has been telling me for the past few nights.
