Weight Lifting/// Where to start and what to do??

Good Morning MF pals!
ive been thinking about lifting these last few weeks and i am currently a member of a gym but i have no idea where to start. . . to be honest the weights area kinda scares me. I have never lifted more than a 8lbs hand weight but i have seem results from people that lift and lift heavy and i really need to learn what to do to get started im very close to my goal and i have a ton of toning to do and i should have started a long time ago so i need to figure it out and get started...
my question is what do you suggest...
how long, how many days a week, what machines should i use...
any help would be great because im clueless

Starting Strength is great.
Definitely check it out.
ETA: before you start lifting take plenty of before pictures and measure, using a measuring tape. Then, periodically during your program take progress pictures and measure your progress both visually and by the inches you'll be losing! Because you *will* be losing inches. It's exciting and awesome and you'll want to go around "RAWWWWRRR"ing at everyone you meet :laugh:0 -

I *highly* suggest the New Rules of Lifting for Women by Lou Schuler... I was just like you! I had no idea where to start and I was so intimidated! I found this gave me the how/when/why of lifting! I am about 2 months in, halfway through the second stage and I love it!!0

Definitely avoid the machines. Starting Strength is a good resource, and Stronglifts 5x5 is also good (and freely available on the internet). The compound movements like squats, deadlifts, bench press, overhead press, and rows are the basic foundations that you'll find in many programs and are a great place to start. Jefit.com has a database exercise organized by muscle groups.0

LOL.. this is awesome i might just start rawwrring at people. i need to lose inches i few lbs would also be great but if not im really happy at how far i have come but i need to build some muscle!!Starting Strength is great.

Just one word of advice , before you even step in the gym make sure you have set out "nutrient targets" . Basically have your food consumption in check , don't walk into a gym and train every day on 1200calories . Work out your TDEE and -20% for weight loss or +20%.0
