Ok give in. I have read the comments,the posts, the boards all about people on 1200 calorie diets. and not eating calories burned. I admit...I am one of those people. I also admit that while I have lost 42 lbs since January the scale has stopped moving. So I am taking the advice of another and going up to 1500 and I will try to eat my exercise calories back without the dreaded guilt I carry if I do this. But please...can some of you look at my diary and tell me maybe what kind of food it lacks? I know this is not a diet. it is a life change. forever. I know alot of you drink protein shakes. I'm not sure I'd care for that too much. Advice? Thanks in advance.

There is no reason to be guilty about eating back exercise calories. You are still maintaining a deficit to lose weight as planned, but when you add in exercise and the food to support the exercise, you are also maintaining your lean muscle mass better. This helps you burn more calories, look better, and be healthier in general. If anything, you should feel bad about not eating enough and your body "eating" your own muscle!0 -
I was on any where from 900-1200 a day.. I too lost about 40 lbs, then it stopped. I started eating 1540 a day and lost 2 more lbs! Just make sure those are GOOD calories!0

yes yes yes...eat more. might even try cycling your calories. two days a week eat your usual 1200, then next two days eat at 1500...another two days eat 1300 and on day seven, have a nice cheat day- have one or two meals that are something your craving...cake, pizza , burger..whatever you want. This will help keep you sane and keep your metabolism off guard and on fire:) Just a thought0 -
Without looking at your diary (it's not open), I would say check your vegetables first. Are you getting 3 servings a day? That's 1/2 c cooked (mixed, peas, carrots, etc) or 1 c raw (broccoli, cauliflower, etc) or 1 1/2 c salad greens. IMO, lack of the vitamins and nutrients that are found in abundance in veggies is often a culprit in a plateau. Also try to get 1-2 servings of fruit a day (whole fruit is far better for you than juice). Finally, check your proteins. I know that I struggle to eat enough protein. Lean meats, fish, nuts, and eggs are good sources. (Fish and nuts also have the good unsaturated fats your body also needs).

edit: okay, you opened your diary as I was typing. It looks like you could use a few more whole grains. Whole wheat/multigrain bread, brown rice, and whole wheat pasta, oatmeal, whole grain cereals, etc are a good source of energy and come with B vitamins, fiber, and other nutrients. Other than that, it looks like you are doing okay with vegetables, fruit (maybe a bit too high, but not bad) , and protein.0 -
I would say more whole grains and more veggies. I can't tell about your sodium content...is it over? Taking vitamins?
Also do try to up your calories for awhile and see if that jumps your metabolism some as well as drinking your water. If you are working out a lot, your body may could use some more nutrients.0 -
I drink alot of water and tea. I'm good with my salt. I actually take the GNC active woman vitamin pack and an addition vitamin B. I work with kids so I am pretty active along with exercise.0

I'm glad you posted this! I upped mine yesterday. I definitely need suggestions of healthier stuff to eat, so I will check back & use these suggestions!0

Eating back exercise calories is awesome. It's the only reason I'm motivated to exercise! Then I drive straight through Taco Bell on the way home.0

Your carbohydrates are very high. Carbohydrates turn into glucose.. when your body sees that they have enough glucose, the excess is stored as fat. Lower your carbohydrates and increase your protein. Cut back on the breads. At first, try to stay way under 100 grams of carbohydrates as you increase protein. Less is better. Don't worry about the fats. Definitely try to keep your carbs way below 35 grams during a meal, and below 15 grams during a snack. Again, don't worry about the fats.0 -
