Wow, buckeye86, those are some great progress pictures. Congratulations!
Also, I don't mean to discourage any of you, it's just something I've noticed - all of you seem much older than me (I'm 21). It makes me so glad that I made this decision now and now 20 years later.
Never too late, though!
Not discouraging, just late to the party!!! You know that expression "If I knew then what I know now"....
I can see where I could have made a huge difference in getting fit in high school alone. I could have walked the 3 miles between school and home every afternoon (instead of taking the bus home) and would likely have been fit by the time I graduated! Can you imagine what a difference 3 miles a day, 5 days a week for 4 years would have done for me? It just seemed soooooo far back then. How dumb was I?
You are SMART taking care of this issue now. Good luck on your journey to fitness!
Even though I am starting early in comparison, I still regret not starting earlier - back in high school. Oh, the countless opportunities I've missed out on already!
A few months more though and I won't miss out on any opportunities because of my looks or fitness anymore.0 -
You go, girl! Can't wait to see your before & after!0

Oh yes..I totally can relate! It "clicked" for me back in 2006 when I said...enough is enough. I was going to a birthday dinner and I was squeezing into a tight skirt that was too small. I looked at the pics from that party and said...I need to do this for me. So I got serious and lost 65 pounds. Since then, I've gained some of it back...but I'm back at it again to get to goal weight...no matter what! And I know you will do the same.
I don't quote celebrities too often, but Oprah made a statement that stuck with me for years. Losing weight is a choice. When you decide that you had enough, and choose to lose weight...no matter what...then you will lose weight!
Best wishes and feel free to add me...I too will be on this journey with you Cheers to healthy living!
Thank you, and your are right. Once we are ready, that's it. I too have a quote from Oprah that resonated with me and I've never forgot it because it could apply to any life situation..."Power is strength over time." Ain't it the truth?0 -
it's definitely a lifestyle change. there is no quick fix, and fad diets, pills, etc don't work. I'm even skeptical of surgeries because too many people fail (because they aren't committed to the lifestyle change - if they were I don't think they'd need surgery in the first place - just my opinion)..... Once you actually make the lifestyle change, it's easy to stick with because of how freaking amazing you feel!!0

You wouldn't have anyway of realizing this yet, but when you age (and if your lucky, you WILL age) you will find that it doesn't matter how old you get, in your mind you are still young with the same conscience and memories and desires you had when you were 21. Age is just a state of mind. Being older makes you a smarter and wiser and well rounded human being. Only then will you realize that being young will only last for a very short time.0 -
You're describing EXACTLY what happened to me... I've only lost 13 lbs (of 40+) so far, but I know it will work this time. Determination... I never had that part of it before, I do now... I can see it, visualize it, but most importantly, I believe it: I CAN be thin too if I just keep putting the work in. This is my time!
YOU CAN DO IT!!!! I know you can...you're off to a great start!0 -
I had that click! I have successfully lost weight before but not as much as I want to loose this time around but not only loose, change my lifestyle in general. I also now have children I want to learn how to properly eat and not sit down and eat a bag of chips in front of the TV and they will learn this from me. My son already is a big boy in general but with an active lifestyle and proper nutrion he will be healthy.
You have a great attitude towards this and that is why it WILL happen this time. Like other posters have stated, 1 bad day or 15 when they happen, just get back into the right groove and don't let it derail you!0 -

Great minds think alike. 45 is only a number for me. Mentally (and for the most part physically) I feel 21. No health issues just some unwanted pounds.0 -
That click came when I found this Site.0

I love how I'm not the only one who had this one moment where clarity happened and was like... Its time.0

This post/thread was exactly what I needed...I have been stuck at 35 lbs. lost for a month and starting to entertain thoughts of just staying put at this weight. Have 7 lbs. left to lose. Back in May, I started workouts 4 t o 6 times per week for an 8 week program and it just clicked. Husband was hesitant to agree to my signing up for a year at the end of the 8 weeks, and I looked him in the eye and said, "I got up at 5:30 AM ALL SUMMER (I'm a teacher) when I could have kept my fat butt in bed. You don't think I can get up at 4:15 during the school year?! I can do this." He relented, and with no exception, I have continued to work out 4-6 times per week since school started. That switch has flipped, and while I have struggled in the last month with the intake valve, I am going to stick with it and DO this. When I reach my goal, I will weigh what I did when I got married in 1991~ Thanks for the inspiration to the OP and all others who have shared your committment on this thread!!!!!!0

What a great post and attitude.
For me? I was scared into this shiznit getting serious. My doctor told me I was pre-diabetic and destined for heart failure. WOOOP WOOOOOOOOP ALARM BELLS. Nothing like the prospect of dying before your Mum to get you to take things seriously.
That thought kept me going during the initial 'this is so hard, why is this so hard, did I mention it's so hard' moments in the beginning. But as time went on, I started doing it because I WANTED to, because it felt good. Because I believe I could do it - must more positive reasons.0 -
YES. absolutely it clicked for me too! I've lost weight several times, but never gotten to my goal weight or to the point that I really felt great about my body. I used to lose weight for a specific future event like vacation or a wedding. I am not doing that anymore, I am doing this for ME and to be healthy and to prove to myself that I can do it. For once in my life I want to look how I imagine myself and be happy and comfortable with my body...and this time its happening good luck on your journey0

GO FOR IT! You really can do this.0

That is EXACTLY how i felt.... it was crazy to wake up one morning and think OMG... i dont care what it takes how much i complain about eating healthy (i knew that was the hardest yet most important part) and how many excuses i could think of to stay out of the gym.
I commited myself to a 4day/week bootcamp and cleaned up my eating. in 8 months i dropped 30 lbs and about 35 inches it CAN be done and finding those who support you and/or have the same goals is crucial!!
If you need any help or encouragment, I'm gladly here for you!
Git it girrrlllll0 -
Thank you, thank you!! I needed to read this today and it hit home! I embarked on this weight loss journey AGAIN for the 100th time I think and ready to make that change.. I don't know what exactly happens but I just know that I am ready and want to feel/look good for me. Def this weight loss thing requires patience and I try to remind myself everyday of that.. See you at the finish line!!
Feel free to add me.

I can relate as well. There wasn't really any specific event or realization - I just used to lay in bed at night, feeling how miserable I was in my own skin. I told myself every night that it was time to handle this. I didn't really yoyo - I just never really started.
Then one day I did - a little bit at a time.I don't know why - kinda like Forrest Gump - "I just felt like running." I saw results, worked a little harder, saw more results.
7 moths and 140lbs later, I eat 1200 calories a day and work out/hike at least 3 times a week and will never look back. My active lifestyle is so much better than what I did before that I can't imagine going back.0 -
I am with you and my story is similar I was a large baby at birth and stayed large my entire life. I was the fat kid in school and the obese adult and now I am still trying to wrap my head around not being that person anymore. Due to my arthritis in my knee I made this change that you are talking about and I will never go back. The heavisest I saw on the scale was 295 lbs. Now I am at 180. I still have work to do and hope someday I will be able to take my shirt off in public and not feel bad about how I look. One thing is for sure I will never go back!
Heaviest or pretty close.
Around 184 and a healthy BMI.
