  • Best: Getting a college education

Worst: Door to door sales in L.A. selling U-verse TV in the middle of the Summer

Current: Manager of Total Nutrition Mansfield - a nutrition store in DFW, TX. I love it! It's always been a passion of mine. I love helping people lose weight and reach their fitness goals.

BEST: Cocktail waitressing... yes, I had to deal with creeps, but I loved the regulars and I left with money in my pocket every single day!

WORST: Cashier at a fast food restaurant. Need I explain?

CURRENT: RN on a telemetry unit. I LOVE my job - but it's tough on the body. I'll probably call nursing my BEST job when I'm not doing floor nursing anymore! And it's definitely my best paying job... I just miss that instant cash on hand, all the time

    BEST : This one (designing)

    WORST: an investment company

Best : Research assistant. I'm nerdy by nature!

Worst: McDonalds, especially the horrible duty known as "lot and lobby". Even if there are 100 people in the place, you are expected to keep all tables clean and wiped, empty all garbages, pick up trash, keep all bathrooms stocked, and sweep/mop up messes. And since the poor sucker on L&L is circulating throughout the restaurant (and outdoors), guess who the customers flag down when they want to complain?

Current: I'm currently a mature student. Hopefully this leads to a decent job. I'm too jaded to fantasize about a dream job anymore, and will just be happy to be able to support myself.

Best: I'll get back to you on that one.

Worst: Working at a day care. As a supposed "Pre Kindergarten" teacher. With the biggest idiot for a boss there is. That woman. ew.

Current: I work in construction. I use the skills that I gathered working at the daycare with the big bunch of cry baby grown men that I work with now. Seriously it was a toss up between my current job and working at the daycare as my worst job.

Best- A tie between working as a package handler at UPS at the airport and the Census Bureau as a statistical clerk.
UPS was fun and kept me lively whereas the C.B. got to the point after most of the census forms data was cleared, they let us sit around and color, play video games, and read magazines all day. For 13.40 an hour.

Worst- Working as a care assistant for the elderly. I liked the people, but it was too personal for me. I felt uncomfortable dressing/undressing and helping them while they were in the bathroom, just because they had no privacy. Also, the company was horrible and wouldn't give me all of the information on the people I was watching. For example, the company once told me I'd be watching a woman with dementia who had broken her hip. No big deal. But they failed to mention I would also be caring for her husband who was restrained to a power scooter and had blown off his hands in WW2. I wouldn't have minded doing it if they would have told me that going in. They would also confuse who had which mental illness. I hope other care companies are much better than that one was...

Edit: Current is a seasonal hire at Party City for Halloween. I'm excited about it but I haven't started it yet. I get my schedule tomorrow.

As an undergrad had a prof that needed adult largemouth bass for an experiment. I got PAID to catch as many as I could for 3 weeks. I felt plumb criminal logging 5 am-3pm for hours "worked".

My entire professional life has been downhill since...

Best and current: shift supervisor at a company that sets up tours around the world. They sent me on a free trip to South Africa in May which I probably would have never been able to afford unless I won the lottery...

Worst- tech support job I had for 3 years

Best: nursing on the floor with patients and my team

Worst: nursing on the floor with no team and large population of critical patients. All the while management pulling us aside to talk about achieving credentialing goals for next weeks visit of the day.

I had some great years in nursing, loved it dearly. Sadly today's nurses are not like we used to be. I feel bad for them with all the pressure and beurocratic loops to jump through. It's no longer patient first, sad. Thankfully, when it stopped feeling fun and like I was not connecting to my patients I left.

Current: loving running my own property management group. Spend the day doing whatever I want. Creating beautiful living spaces or enjoying the fresh air behind a lawnmower. Life is much simpler. Surprisingly pay has been steadily much higher than hospital work!
  • BEST: Don't know if there is a best. They are all OK at best.

WORST: Working on a farm cleaning stalls.

CURRENT: Cardiac Sonographer (Not bad if you have to have a job)

BEST: College education! I love learning. :)

Worst: Waitress.... Its a severely under appreciated job. I have done it for 6 years and I am not sure how much longer I can do it.

CURRENT: Almost done with school, studying to be an cardiac sonographer too! HELLO HEART FRIEND! :)

Best: Current career - Correctional Officer
It's not for everyone, but for some reason I excel at it. I get alot of job satisfaction from it.

    Worst: Meat Grinder
For about a year I used to start work at 6am to grind tons of prime beef into McDonald's hamburger patties. It was mind-numbing work and after that job, I hated the smell of blood for a long time. The only benefit I really got from it was that I have the highest confidence in the quality of McDonald's beef. It was a super strict enviroment and it's all prime beef (at least in western canada  )

Worst - being a temp at a company that made truck parts. The union guys wanted you to work really, really slow because they didn't want the parts quota raised. But it was so slow. You had to really put forth an effort to be that slow. So I quit. There was no way I could do that day after day. *I am not saying that all union places are like this. But this one was almost cartoonish in the way they carried out their laziness.

Best - Being the only chic in a metal shop, until my sister joined us. Then it was just double the fun.

Currently - mom, but looking for a job.

BEST: Interactive Marketing & Website Development for Allstate Insurance (fun job, cool team, got to play golf every Friday)

WORST: Skinning deer and cutting their heads off for $20 a day on Saturdays at my uncle's country butcher shop

CURRENT: (& do you like it?) I lead a specialized technical team within an insurance company... crazy hours, but the job is okay. Not my perfect gig, but the company is solid.

Worst: dq unofficial manager at 17 (senior in hs) working 40 hrs per week with no appreciation

Currently own an Allstate agency. Its not my favorite, but it was sort of decided for me. My husband wanted an agency. We met 26 years ago when he was a Marine and I was a Farmers Insurance agent. He was a client. For some odd reason he's always wanted to have an agency after he got out of the marines.

Best Job: We owned an 80 acre ostrich ranch in Arizona. It was a blast. I handled the birds, did a lot of their veterinary care, performed necropsies when they died, did the hatching, built fences and shelters. It was so much fun. I could wrestle a 350 pound bird to a standstill.

Worst was when I worked the back office for a crazy doctor that looked like Mr. Woodman on Welcome Back Kotter. Worst doctor ever. I used to advise people to get a second opinion for anything serious. He dispensed meds out of his office rather than writing prescriptions. When I quit, I quit in style. I threw bottles of enteric coated pills at the cabinet above his head and they popped open and bounced and scattered down all over him and his desk and the floor....2,000 of them to be exact. Pills, not bottles.

I've also been a DJ on several radio stations, made eyeglasses, waited tables, taught school, been a hand on an Arabian Horse Farm, worked in several doctor's offices, been an EMT in the ER, a cardiac monitor technician in the ICU, a veterinary assistant...just to name a few of my favorites. I have a short attention span.

Best: I enjoy my current job in Sales learning and development.

Worst: Certified Nurses Assistant - Bedpans and sponge baths and not one patient that looked like Trojanbb
  • Best: Working in the costume shop at school. I didn't get paid very much and I didn't have many hours, but I just sewed and hung out with people and helped them sew and I was doing something that I love to do and was getting paid for it. It was work-study, though, so when the semester ended, the job ended.

Worst: I worked at a call center for tech support. I had to help people fix their computers over the phone... First of all, I have social anxiety, and talking on the phone gives me anxiety attacks. Secondly, I know nothing about computers! I did 3 weeks of training, 1 week of actual work, and then I quit. I would literally come home and cry it was so awful. I was making decent money, but it wasn't worth it.

Current: I work from home for a short sale company. I can set my own schedule and it's pretty low-stress. I enjoy it a lot.
