How do you get rid of what I call "shelf butt?" My stomach is flattening, arms and legs are thinning, but my butt still juts out when you look at in profile. Others may call this 'chair butt', it's the area at the top of the butt/bottom of back, hopefully you all know what I'm talking about. I ride my bike and walk. Are there other exercises that get rid or this? Or is it the last place to go away???

funny! i just called this the butt shelf and the person i was talking to had no idea what i was talking about.

i used to have one and sometime between now and february it's gone. if you see my old butt shelf, cross the street!

the rate at which it goes away is going to depend on how your individual body prefers to store fat. for me my midsection is the first to slim down, so that whole area is slimming down much quicker than my thighs and face

seriously though, you cant spot reduce. the only way to get rid of it is how you get rid of any other fat pockets : eat below your maintenance calorie wise and workout.

i eat anywhere from 10-30% below my maintenance, strength train with heavy weights 3 days a week and do some form of cardio (mainly HIIT) for about 4 hours total each week.
  • I've found that Pilates and yoga help with this.

I had to google this.. I feel a little disturbed right now.
  • Thankfully mine is diminishing in proportion to the rest of me. I don't do anything specific for that area. I walk, bike, swim (leisurely), go to dance/zumba class once a week, and have a boatload of exercise vides to keep things interesting. Keep moving. It will eventually melt away!

Let me start by saying, I have always had a big butt, and want to keep a Butt, just replace the fat with muscle. That having been said, I am actually , for the first time, having to work muscles differently to add shape in the right places because my butt has changed dramatically. I highly recommend the butt bible by Pauline nordin. She does a lot of squats, lunges, dead lifts, etc to add muscle. I have lost most of my fat in that area already (waiting on my hips to catch up:wink: ). Also u have to do the cardio to lose fat but muscle also burns more calories. I think dead lifts are king for that area. Try her videos. U can find butt bible free on YouTube.
