"Troll" comes from the fishing term where a baited line is dragged behind a moving boat. Online trolls do the same thing in concept...dangle something out there in the hopes of getting a "bite".

Now you know. (and knowing is half the battle!)

Well, okay. Then what does "BUMP" mean? I see that on here a lot.

People "bump" a post when they don't have a reply but want it to show in the "My Topics" section, usually to refer back to or read later replies.

    That makes sense. Thanks!

Definitely not trolling, should have googled it :0.

For my last birthday I wished more people would google dumb stuff before posting a thread. But since I told you, it won't come true.

A "bump" is also when the OP started a thread, and is trying to get people to read it.

Threads in a forum are listed in order of most recent post to least recent. If someone just posted on a thread, it gets moved to the top of the list.

That's where the term came from, by posting, it gets "bumped" to the top of the forum.

Trolling is actually a very subtle art when done correctly, and MFPers have a tendency to use the word incorrectly and label everyone they dislike as a "troll."

Troll = online bully , got it!

Basically, people that like to be rude. I don't get it lol

A troll isn't always an online bully. Attention-*kitten* fall in this category too.

ah i remember the good old days when if you said somone was trolling it just ment they had there "privates" hanging out
