I am thinking of geting a heart rate monitor. Do you think it is worth getting? If so, which one do you recommend and why? Any tips you have are appreciated! Thanks

I just got my Polar Ft4 this week. I think it's awesome!
I didn't really know how much the machines in the gym and online calculators were over estimating my workouts. Today the elliptical said I burned 425 and it was actually more like 325...what if I ate back all my exercise calories faithfully every day? I'd be eating 700 too many calories a week or more! That's an extra pound I could be losing every month or so. Now I only have 5 pounds to go but for someone who wants to lose more the number could be much higher. I paid around $60 and I think it's worth every penny. Even after I'm done losing and on the maintenance I'll know how many extra calories I really have when I work out so I won't overeat and gain it all back.0 -
I recently got a HRM and I really like it! Ploar ft4. It was $89. I really like knowing how many calories I am actually burning instead of using the MFP generic workout plug ins. I am a beginner at this fitness stuff, hence why I am here, but I would recommend a HRM for sure!0

If you are serious about watching your caloric input/output, then yes, it's worth it. I have a New Balance N4 that set me back about $65. Before I was using the HRM I was relying on MFP and my bike riding tracker to watch how many calories I was burning. I may have gotten a a read of 1500 calories burned on an hour long bike ride. With the HRM, it came to about 700 calories. That's a huge difference. I couldn't figure out why my weight loss was stalled for over a month0

One of the best tweaks I made to my fitness! I use a Polar FT-7. before I got it, I was over estimating my burns - not a huge deal, but I really wanted an accurate picture.
Easy to use and although I was skeptical of the chest strap, I got used to it after 3 times and now I feel naked working out without it.0 -
Thanks for the input! I think I may need to save up to get one soon!0

I love mine! I like knowing how many calories I burned, especially in Zumba class. That way I know how hard I worked.0
