A woman walks into a gym

Planing to at least have a lok at the weights, Looks at the men working out, is scared, does a run on the treadmill and creeps away.

So next time I walk in what do I do?? I have seen the starting strength book recommended..but it's £35 on amazon.co.uk..

If you are like me, you need a plan and a log sheet. Does your gym offer an orientation? Or can you pay for one session with a trainer? Or even look in a book or website to figure out a few weight exercises and write them down. Then bring your plan to the gym: I feel much more confident when I can look at my log sheet and know that I am starting with bicep curls, with ## lb weights, aiming for # reps. And then moving to the next exercise on my sheet.

If you are doing it on your own, start with lighter weights but go up until you find a weight that is challenging: then write that weight down on your log sheet so you will know where to start next time.

Most gyms I've used have a file cabinet somewhere for you to keep your log sheet so you won't forget to bring it.

And by having a log sheet, you can look back and see how much you've improved over time. Yay!

Starting Strength would probably be the best investment you ever made.

strong lifts 5x5 if a free down load and there is a group here that has most of the info

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/4618-stronglifts-5x5-for-women

New rules of lifting foe Women also has a group

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/119-new-rules-of-lifting-for-women-nrol4w-

If you go in with a plan and a spreadsheet of your workout get the trainer to show you how to do it. This applies to any of the programs that have been recomended.

Does your gym have weight machines? Maybe you can work your way up using those?

They've helped me feel comfortable in the weight room because I was in there a few times a week with the same dudes.

Ask the guys to help ya out :)

I done it all the time when I went to the gym, when I was first doing strength training, most were more than happy to help ya and show ya how to do things, or they would come over if you sat looking confused. Lol!!
