Nine month report

So here goes...On November 5, 2011, I did a health check at work and weighed in at 230lbs and I was a 46 year old male at 5ft 6 in. Needless to say my health screening didn't go well! I got my results about the 15th of November and my father passed away on the 28th of November. I needed to go buy a new shirt for the funeral because I didn't have any that fit my neck. In December 2011, I shared the health screening results with my doctor who told me that I was headed down a bad path that would likely lead to Type II diabetes and other problems. On the day after Christmas, I decided enough was enough and went cold turkey.
I decided that I wanted to weigh 185 lbs, without setting a date that I had to be completed. I needed to find time during the day to do the exercise which was difficult because I am a work aholic. I exercised for 21 straight days from 12/26/11 to make sure that I had the rrythym needed to succeed. No trainer help, I knew what I needed to do. My goal was to lose just a pound a week. I knew that I didn't put all of this weight on in a month, so it was silly logic to think it would come off so quickly. My daily routine changed to waking at 5.45am, looking up at the heavens and telling Dad that I was getting up. I tried to maintain a workout at least 6 of 7 days in a week for an average duration increasing from 35 min to 45 min+.
As you can imagine, results have been very positive! Although I hit several periods where the weight loss just wouldn't happen, I never stopped my routine workouts alternating swimming, biking and elliptical work, with weights added in recently. I am now weighing in at 199 lbs and just feel awesome. I just finished swimming a mile and a half in under 48 minutes.
I know I'm not there yet but I feel confident that I will get there...at some point soon. Dad would be proud. My family and coworkers are astonished. I have dropped 4 inches off my waist and comfortably fit into 36 in waist. I won't stop until I reach 34!
Thanks for reading...never give up

Thanks. I did forget to add that MFP has been used througout. Without knowing how much food I was consuming, I would only be stabbing in the dark. It has forced me to change eating behaviors, even on the weekends. I am competing in my first mini triathalon next month. Never would have thought I could do that!!0

Congratulations! You've done wonderful and what an inspiration. I'm sorry about the loss of your Dad, but I too still talk to my Mom at times and she's been gone for 7 years. Not often, but once in awhile I know that feeling to look up and say, "Come on Mom, help me get through this".... Keep up the excellent work. I'm sure your family is SO proud of you! Thanks for sharing your story.0
