Total change

So I started to really watch what I put in my body. I am reading labels. I will be switching from skim milk to almond milk as soon as the gallon we have is gone (Can't bring myself to throw it away). I will be eating much more whole raw foods, no juice from concentrate, and trying to phase out my cheese. The cheese will be really hard to let go of. I got some really good food advice from someone and plan to give it a go. It will be a complete change from how I was eating but it should help me reach my 100 lb. weight lose goal as well as improve my health. Wish me luck. I hope I can do this!

You do this! This is pretty much exactly what I have done. Not only have I lost a lot of weight pretty quickly, I feel better than I have in years! My lab work is great, and everyone tells me that I am glowing. Putting healthy, nourishing food into your body makes a HUGE difference!

i think that is a good plan for you :) you can do it!!!!!!!!!
  • That is my plan. To start with lower fat cheeses then slowly move to less and less. I thought about looking for some vegan cook book as well. I think my first daughter is going to not eat meat at all. So we need to start learning to cook without it. Plus it is supposed to be better for you. I guess time will tell.

Lowfat dairy is a nutritional bargain. Unless you are intolerant, it is a very good food to have in your diet.

Since you have decided to switch, make sure you change your Goals here to track Calcium and Vitamin D and Potassium. If you aren't getting your needs met, you can supplement Calcium and Vitamin D. Dairy has so many benefits for such a low calorie count. I tried to switch, but I just couldn't meet my needs through other foods. Do some research on the benefits of Calcium and weight loss.

    Good luck.

What you will notice even further is that after a few more weeks - you won't even miss junk food and you will actually CRAVE good food!

A really good vegan cookbook, especially if you have kids is Peas and Thank You by Sarah Matheny. My family's loved every recipe we've made from this book and there are lots more on her blog as well: http://peasandthankyou.com/

Cheese is one of the hardest things for me to cut out of my diet. I just love it! I usually allow myself one dairy (cheese) product per day. Just make sure you are getting in your exercise along with the new raw foods in your diet and you will do great! Eat lots of protein.
  • You are already well on your way!!! Congratulations...you can do this for sure!

This is great! They do have some good Gluten Free - Vegan Cheese out there. I don't want to sit and eat it plain but I get the pepper jack vegan cheese and when you melt it on things -- you don't even miss cheese. They do have slices and stuff and it tastes fine with stuff and really tricks you into thinking you are eating normal cheese.

You might do well incorporating smoothies into your diet. If you take spinach raw and blend it up, it really doesn't have much of a taste so then you can add bananas, strawberries and it is very yummy. they also have packets of "greens" and some are flavored ie. dark chocolate and you feel like you are cheating but you aren't Sometimes I will throw carrots in. The problem with any juice is what you need from fruits and vegetables is the meat of the fruit. That is what makes the roughage to go through your system. The juice is just the liquid and sugar properties plus if you juice or drink juice, I have heard that juice taken from the fruit/vege should be consumed within thirty mins as it loses any nutrition it still contained. so I don't juice, I blend the whole fruit/vege and you can drink it thick or add water/almond milk to make more liquidy.

Good Luck!!! Reading Labels and eating raw, natural food is a great step!!! :D
  • Good Luck to you. When I started I was right where you were. I started at 322lbs got down to 210lbs and now through strength training am up to 218lbs, but smaller than ever. You are doing it the right way, making good choices. Read labels, watch the sodium and most important you portion sizes. The portion size will become easier as you move alone because take it from me you won't be able to eat as much when you get smaller so don't waste those opportunities by eating junk. Also remember this is a life style change, so don't make anything off limits such as meats, just watch your portions. Protein is not the enemy here you'll need it for proper nutrition. Again good luck, you can do it!

I echo the Way to Go's!

I was trying to give up cheese, but I found a ounce or so every other night to be okay. As long as it fits into your macros, you're good.
