What UK cafes have the healthiest food

Options
Hi everyone, most cafes I am aware of sell sandwiches with white bread made with wheat flour which I avoid (which is always disguised as "Malted Bread"). Does anyone know a cafe that sells sandwiches or salads with wholegrain/wholemeal bread? I've had a look at Starbucks, Costa, Caffe Nero, Pret A Manger (which doesn't even have an ingredient list!).

Thanks.

I haven't found any but you may need to check the independent little cafes and shops that specialise. There are some awesome vegan cafes in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh but do not know if they sell sarnies but they will have amazing salads and meals.

I don't know about anywhere that uses wholegrain or wholemeal, but I wanted to add my thoughts about Pret. Although they don't have ingredients on their packaging, they do have calorie counts on the labels - and they have ingredients and full nutritional information on their web site. Pret claim that many of their sandwiches are malted wholegrain, which should suit you. Their baguettes don't make this claim.

I do tend to go for their salads, though - big and hearty. The caesar is 211 calories - the dressing is 118 per tub, so you can manage how much you use. Really filling, though.

It's where I go out of choice with work colleagues - I can pick a healthier option without having to pick up every sandwich and check.

Why not try small local cafe's - you can speak to the owners about what is in their food and it's usually less pre-prepared bought in rubbish than the big chains? x

    Thanks guys

Hey...I remember when I lived in the U.K. that Pret had a few healthy options! Ok, so a lot of places don't like to display the calories in their food everywhere, but almost every chain that has a website posts the nuitritional info online. Take the time to read up on some of these place's options, and remember the options you can eat, and you will feel more confident when you are out and about and need a sandwhich. I find this helps me A LOT.

For Pret U.K.'s website, just click on 'menu' and then the individual menu items, and it shows you the kcals, etc in each option!

If you're not necessarily looking to eat in but just to grab something then Marks and Spencer and Boots have great low cal sandwiches, sushi and salads.
