EATING ON VACATION

My boyfriend and I went to Niagara Falls, Canada last week and stayed in a hotel that does not have a kitchen or a fridge so we could not prepare out own meals. Plus, we were out walking/sightseeing all day every day. Besides the fact the food is ridculously expensive everywhere you turn, the food is all fast-foodish, high calorie crap. Luckily the hotel had free wi-fi so l looked up my meals and logged them everyday.
Anyway, due to time restrictions and the refusal to spend $22 a day on breakfast, my eating habits were not normal. I did not have 3 meals at adequate times with my normal snacks but despite that, out of the 4 days on vaca, I only went over my calories one day by 350 ( and thats because I chose to eat breakfast that day. I normally eat breakfast every day at home).
We were literally walking for hours a day, calorie intake was normal except for the one day, yet instead of losing weight or maintaining weight I gained one pound. Now I know this is not the end of the world it is just frustrating. I tried very hard to be within my daily limits but here is the question.... Despite normal body fluctuations, could this be because the food I was eating was crap? Steakhouses, Italian Restaurant, Pizza, etc..? and FYI--- Niagra Falls, Canada must have a bias against vegetables because not one restaurant we went to offered green veggies except for the Italian place that offered salad before the main course. Eveything was fries, pasta of some sort, bread, and some other form of carbs. The last day there I asked for some form of veggies to be added to my meal and they found me some frozen broccoli.

Just speculating here, but I bet the foods you ate were high in sodium. If you tend to retain water, that is probably the pound difference!0

Probably just water retention from higher sodium/higher carb foods. All in all seems like you did a good job.
I agree with you on the expense of eating up there, we went up two summers ago and could not believe the cost of food, most expensive place we ever traveled to in terms of food.0 -
I would also guess water retention - restaurant/fast food is loaded with sodium! Get back on track, drink loads of water and I'm sure that pound will drop right back off.0

Thanks everyone. I wasn't aware of the affects of sodium. I just knew those foods arent the best for you and they impact my body negatively in general.0

Turns out it was water retention. I lost 3 lbs when I weighed in one week later.0
