Insanity and Weight Training Hybrid

Does anyone do a program alternating Insanity with strength training. I was thinking about doing Insanity 3 times a week and doing at least 2 strength training days. I did Insanity twice last year and I do enjoy the intensity of the workouts. I didn't have any significant loss until I mixed it up with Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred for a few weeks earlier this year. This week I decided to alternate Insanity with Jillian Michael's Body Revolution, but I think the DVDS are too similar. Even though Jillian uses weights, there are a lot of the same moves. I was thinking about just lifting those two strength days at the gym and maybe finishing off with cardio abs. Has anyone tried this?

are you wanting to lose weight? or tone?0

Lose Weight. I didn't really lose doing Insanity alone, I tend to have better results with the combination of cardio and lifting.0

It sounds like you should probably mix it up. Since you've already done insanity twice, your body has probably gotten use to the movements. Lifting helps build lean muscle so don't be surprised if at first you don't lose a ton of weight cause like i'm sure you know...muscle weighs more than fat. I suggest that you find out what your body fat % is and get your measurements taken. From your profile pic it doesn't look like you have a lot left to lose, so an exercise routine of about 80% resistance and 20% cardio would probably work well for you!0

What about Chalean Extreme instead of Body Revolution0

I was debating doing this, as well. I would like to know what more people think.0

I'll be doing something like this after I finish this round of Insanity. i did 2 rounds of P90X and now 1 round of Insanity. Both gave me results, but I need to change it up this next time. I still have some work to do both in toning and body fat. Muscle and fat weigh the same, but I sure like the fact that muscle takes up less room.0

I have Body Revolution. I did the first two phases, during phase 3 I started doing Insanity instead of her cardio workouts, though Body Revolution incorporates weights, the moves are very similar to Insanity, so seemed a bit redundant.0 -

Thanks, but profile pics can be deceiving. I am actually about 40lbs from my goal weight. I am 5'10. I also have PCOS so I gain weight fast, but lose incredibly slow. Even if the scale doesn't move, it is important for me to lose fat, getting back into a size 6 is the goal. I am currently a 10 to 14.0 -

My 3 day split looks like this:
Mon - Push
Tues - Max Cardio subbing ski/in-out abs for pushups
Wed - Pull
Thursday - Max Plyo - do the pushups, minimize the squats jumps w/ high knee abs
Friday - Legs0 -
If you've already done Insanity twice and you're planning doing additional strength training, you've probably advanced to the point where you can leave the dvds alone and do your own thing. I've done Insanity twice as well as a break from my normal routine, but I wouldn't make it the basis of my training.
I would suggest you do the make sure you're on the right calorie deficit so that you're going to lose weight, and you assist the process with a solid strength building routine along with normal, non-dvd based cardio. My personal favorite is jumping rope 12 mins before lifting and 12 after, but do what you like. But 3 days lifting per week and 3 cardio sessions (either same day or alternate days) will get you where you need to go,. As you get closer to your goal weight you can start reducing the cardio0 -
I wish that was the case, but Insanity just doesn't get any easier. I'm just starting it again after a year and I am far from a pro. I do DVDs because I don't always have access tor time for the gym. And with the exception of spinning, I don't find the group fitness classes at the gym as intense. I do run sometimes, but still I really think insanity is a great cardio routine, but I am not interested in doing the 60 day challenge anymore, I am looking for a long term routine. I would like to keep Insanity for my cardio, but still do a strength training routine 2 to 3 days a week.0

I did insanity one round and I am now on week 4 of insanity/p90x and running hybrid. Seems to be working so far. I had good results with insanity but I think this will help to get me to my goal. I also have pcos and I am about 7 lbs from my goal. I do think adding running had helped me a lot! You can add me as a friend and we can keep each other going!
