I feel like a major wimp.

I don't know what happened to me, but it seems like I've let all the "crap" of life take over. I know these are problems we can't really avoid (unemployment, bills, people who get on your nerves) but I also know these are problems that don't have to drag us down!

I've decided it's time to be a little more "selfish" with my life. I have to start doing things for me. Working out and eating healthy are naturally at the top of the list, but just generally do things for myself without having to worry about pleasing someone else. I'm trying some new hobbies as well.

I'd love to hear from the ladies out there that balance the ups and downs of life (family, relationship, job etc)!

This was 1 of the reason I decided on a change of life. I was not only scared to end up like my parents who are extrememly obese with a lot of health issues...I wanted/needed a change that for me and me only. I'd love it if my husband was on board with working out too for himself but he is lazy and doesn't want to. That's his choice but I don't want to hear him say (and he does) that I'm making him feel fat because I'm loosing weight and looking good. He's choosing to be this way just like I chose to change my life around. When I'm feling angry/sad/irritated, I go work out. It seems to take all that away and then I feel good again to deal with whatever life throws at me.

Don't let the toilet of life get you down...instead, reach for that golden ring that's hanging at the end of the tunnel! Having friends on here really helps to motivate you and when my friends in real life make a comment about how i look, it makes me want to work all the harder to reach my goal. If you...or anyone... needs/wants any other friends on here for support, feel free to add me

I spent the majority of my life taking care of everyone else. I put everyone elses needs ahead of my own. As much as I like to help people, deep down I was a miserable wreck.

About 2 years ago, I decided to put me first. I still do a lot for others, but only when I really want to and I really have the time. I take time for myself everyday. No excuses. I work out, I walk my dogs, I spend quiet time alone.

And you know what? My friends seem to think that I am a much better friend to them now. Because now when I am there for them, I am TOTALLY there for them. My mind isn't off doing 85 things at once. I am at peace with myself and when it is there turn, I am able to focus on them.

And let me tell you... I am so happy with my life right now.

    Good Luck!

There are always going to be issues and problems. You are always going to need to take care of yourself because nobody else can. That has to be the constant. The pile of dishes is still going to be there after your workout. The bills and annoying people are still going to be there. So you might as well be doing something for you.

Thanks for the words of wisdom! Everything you have said resonates with me - it's true, time to take care of myself.
  • Almost 2 months ago I decided the same thing- its time I take time for myself- I am a stay at home mom of 2, a 14 yr old girl who has ADHD, and an 8 yr old boy who has aspergers, I also watch 2 little girls 5 & 8, and the 8 yr old also has aspergers. I live next door to my father and 1 older brother and usually cook dinner for them 5+ nights a week, and my mom step dad and grandma live less than 4 miles away- grandma has dimentia so I help care for her a few days a week. For years I have had no time to myself, everyone always needs me for something. When i first started this I was told my some I was being selfish by saying no, and for cooking foods they didn't like- I told them to hire someone to clean their house (My dad) and to cook their own food (again my dad)- and i told the rest of my family they were going to pitch in around the house more- a TON of complaining from my daughter, but oh well.

I do still cook some unheathy foods but I try to counter that with healthy options also- I always have fresh veggies in my fridge and since i like ranch with my veggies i found a good recipe for low cal/low fat ranch. I try not to stress about the little things- if my laundry sits in a basket for a day (or 4) then who cares, not me anymore. I use the word NO a lot more than I used to, no I will not make brownnies tonight, no I will not buy candy/ice cream for dessert tonight, NO i will not forgo my walk to drive you somewhere.

I told everyone who is important in my life that i was doing this and if they didn't like it and had a problem with it then that meant they didn't care about me therefor I would no longer have them in my life- so far everyone is still here. the first month was hard, very very hard.

I have a meal list on my fridge of what dinners we can choose from and every night people have the option of marking what they would like the next day, if they don't like what i am cooking there is stuff to make sandwiches or a bowl of cereal or even leftovers.

I refuse to give up my favs and i do eat things that are bad from me sometimes- the last two weeks have been horrible but I will get back on track (grandma is in the hospital and I have been sick also).

This is the new me- no if ands or butts about it.
