p90x questions

Hello, my boyfriend and I started p90x 2 days ago and we are SO sore!!! But I guess that's a good thing. :) How many calories do you put into your calorie counter cardio section when you do the full hour? I'm really confused on that. Also, how has everyone's experience been with p90x? I have about 10 more pounds to lose and they are not coming off easily so I thought this might be a good thing to try. Any suggestions out there on anything related to p90x?

Thanks so much! Any help is appreciated. :)

  • you should get a heart rate monitor to be sure about how many calories you are burning. everyone is different. good luck though! you seem to be doing well. :)
  • I just finished week one of p90x. I'm doing the lean version. I lost 3 pounds the first week (I've also been extremely dilligent about my food and beverage choices, though I'm not following the p90x diet). I am very happy so far. I have about 17 more pounds to lose. So far moving in the right direction =) Good luck to you!!:flowerforyou:
  • I'm doing P90X, too! I am in the 6th week of the lean program. If you read the nutrituion guide (I'm OCD like that, so I read it cover to cover :) ) then it says to allow 600 calories per day for the exercise in the program.

So I'm 138 lbs, my pre-P90X net calorie goal each day was 1200. When I started P90X, the calculations I did at the beginning of the nutrition guide put me at 1800 calories to consume each day. So that's where I get the 600 burned via P90X. Obviously there's a difference in crappy calories vs high protein and high energy P90X nutrition plan calories, so I think you're safe w/ the 600. I also run and bike a lot, so I factor in a few more carbs than the nutrition plan calls for. If you don't see weight loss results, though, for some reason, then I'd follow the advice of the HRM and checking out exactly how many you're burning. If you're under 600 calories burned for the hour, then up your intensity for each of the moves to really pushing it. Or if it's not possible, drop down your caloric intake goals by however much you're not burning in the P90X 600 cals/day thing. That make sense?

So all that rambling just to say I allow 600 for it. Haha... Good luck! Enjoy the journey!

My wife and I are on day 32 of P90X. We were sore the first week as well, but I promise you it gets better. The first week is the hardest because you are still trying to watch the videos and perfect what the instructors are doing. Once you know the moves it gets easier and easier. The really satisfying thing is seeing how the moves get easier each week. That's how you know you're getting stronger and more fit.

I log the resistance training under curcuit training and the cardio workouts as aerobic, high impact.

Thanks for the suggestions! I just ordered a HRM and I'm excited to use it! Hopefully that will help. Good luck to everyone! Hopefully next week I won't be as sore! :)
