How accurate is a bioelectrical impedance scale in determining lean muscle mass?

It's not even worth looking at it. The readings can vary huge amounts either way based on how much water you've had, the humidity, time since your last bowel movement, what you ate yesterday, TOM, and about 50 other things.0

Buy yourself a set of body fat callipers - much cheaper and much more reliable! I actually have scales that supposedly measure body fat %tage, but it can fluctuate by as much as 6% over a 24 hour period - that can't be right :huh:0

Go get a DEXA scan (Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry)
http://www.measureup.com.au/media/docs/female.pdf
From every total body DEXA scan you get the following information including the Quickscan:
Total body bone mineral density
Total body muscle mass (kg)
Total body fat mass (kg)
Total body fat percentage
Muscle and fat mass of the trunk and each of your arms and legs
Central abdominal fat measurement
Accuracy to one tenth of a gram0 -
Not at all, my readings will change just from having a shower.
If you use one try and do it at the same time and in the same conditions but remember the values are not great.0
