Think I got it, its the higher intensity part of your work out, the actual work out as opposed to the warm up and cool down.
  • Hi, how did you work out your max heart rate, and also how did you work out your zone limits? im totally confused, when i do a spinning class, my bike says 500 cal burnt, but my watch says much lower. thanks

    Hey, I also use a FT4.

The "in zone" function is to help to to train at a optimal HR for your intended purpose.
    Generally:
Fat loss <60% of max HR
Fitness or body conditioning 60% to 70%
and to stress the cardio vascular systm:
    >90%

At different heart rate targets your body uses different energy pathways and this is why it is beneficial to know
at which HR zone you should exercise to best improve on your results.
