I don't even bother with all that mashing and prep. Cut it in half, sprinkle with salt and eat it right out of the shell! YUMMMMO!
    AMEN!

Oooh me too. I miss having an avocado tree but they don't do well here in the desert.

    Count me in!!!!

The real debate: Florida or Haas?

    Dun dun....

Haas wins all the time. Being in California, Haas is the main avo in stores. But I've also lived in Florida and while those are bigger than Haas, they are stringy and kind of taste water logged and bland. I am awaiting my first batch off of my 2 Haas trees. Can't wait. Nummy.

Hi, my name is Jessica and I'm here because I love avocados.

    Haas, to be precise.

Today I had a Avocado Egg Salad (from Skinnytaste.com), last night I had 1/2 a Haas over smoked pork shoulder & cotija cheese, and sometime last week I had a tuna avocado wrap for lunch.

    I've shared enough for today.

    next...

I am ashamed to say I have never tried one before :embarassed: I really want to but we never seem to have them in store and the rare time I do see them they are either really expensive or not so fresh looking. (I am in Canada) I plan to try it one of these days. What is the tastiest way to prepare it for a first try?

Not sure where you're at in Canada, but I used to get mine at the fruit stands along the street/Chinatown (Toronto). The ones from Metro were crap, but I found the fruit stands have higher quality. You can't tell an avocados freshness from looking either, you need to squeeze it gently, kind of as you would with a melon. If it gently bends to pressure, it's about ready to eat. If it's firm, and doesn't yield to your pressure, give it another 2-3 days.

Best first time recipe? Guac, if you like tomatoes/onions. With a little bit of salt and chorizo in a tortilla, if you like spicy. Or plain sliced with salt if you want to try it by itself.

I love it with my eggs in the morning, I have bread, avocado, some splashes of sriracha, egg on top, HEAVEN.

I add them to my burger, tacos, salad, or I just eat them plain on the side of any meal!! I love them!! I love to make homemade chuncky salsa and I add chunks of avocado to it and it makes it so yum!
