Insanity and Calorie goal

I have been doing this MFP thing every day since June. Every single calorie counted. My calorie intake is now set at 1760. I've lost around 18lbs and am what I imagine is a pretty ideal weight 5'10" 167lbs. I don't need to lose much more weight. I figure 5lbs at the most of fat. Weight loss is no longer a real goal, but rather to tone up and build muscle.

I started the Insanity program today and I felt it was a good time to recalculate my calorie goals. In doing the Harris Benedict equation to determine my caloric intake needs, the number was 1777 before I factor in my level of activity. Insanity suggests that I multiply that number by 1.55 due to me becoming more active. This gives me a new caloric goal of 2754. I think this is a very high number and don't really think I could eat that many calories on a regular basis. Insanity suggested subtracting 500 calories from the 2754 number if a still had any interest in losing weight. Like I said, I can stand to lose 5 more and the lower number is more appealing to my need for food, so I'm going to go with 2254 (I think).

I'm assuming that I won't be able to (or shouldn't) subtract Insanity calories from my gross calories being that its already been factored in (by multiplying my number by 1.55), but I can still subtract additional exercise like running or biking.

Does anyone who has done Insanity have any input on what I should do here? Did you eat that much more with Insanity? I think its crazy to add 1000 calories to my diet when doing Insanity just to maintain. Any input would be appreciated.

I ate 1700 calories while on Insanity and I'm only 5'2 118lbs although I was about 5lbs heavier at that time. This calorie level is for me to LOSE, If I want to maintain I need to eat 2100-2200 cal a day.

You are male and bigger, yes eating 2500 plus calories sounds right. And yes your Insanity workout is factored in but not additional exercise if it bumps you to a higher activity level.

I am finding this hard to get my head around too. I am currently in month 2 of NSA it's along wi my fiancée. Whereas I am still needing to lose 40lb or so, she is at her goal weight and wanting to just tone up.

The problem is, her calorie intake jumps up to 2300 if we follow the guidelines, which seems awful high.

I understand that you need to meet the bmr of your body and then either add or subtract depending if u want to gain or lose. But it's also a kismet gamble when ins airy is such a hard workout to gain.
