anyone else have difficulty with their healthy lifestyle during times of extreme stress?I feel like right now my whole plan has been derailed because of the stress in my life. I don't know how to get past it, or to keep the weight coming off while going through this. Any ideas??

I've been following the guidelines from http://goo.gl/2KB4X and they've helped a lot to cope with stress.
- Tackle one problem at a time
- Simplify your schedule
- Do something active
- Develop one healthy habit this month
- Do something calming e.g drinking tea, meditation, yoga, massage etc
- Simplify your finances
- Have fun
- Get creative
- Declutter
- Be early.
I hope that helps.0 -

I make working out my stress relief. When i'm calm and having good days i'll row, bike or walk. If i'm having a stressful day i'll use the punchbag and whack the crap out of it0

I have had extreme stress for about 6 weeks now. I even started smoking again after doing so well!
I hate it, but, I got off my *kitten* yesterday morning and I got back into it. After six weeks, my body was weak, and my lungs were struggling to breathe. I did only half of my normal workout and I was only able to walk, not run my two miles.
I know I can't pick up where I left off, but I CAN build my endurance back up with consistence.
So I plan on doing my workout this morning too. This will be day two.
I'm starting all over again.
Think of this....if you workout, are the problems going to still be there?
If you don't workout , are the problems going to still be there?
The problems will be there when you're done, so get it done, then deal with the problems, one. At. A. Time.0 -

First of all...BREATHE!!!! Yes, GREAT ideas MACPACMAN!!!
Everyone is going thru stress at some point in time and, unfortunately, for some of us, it is more then others. But, all we can do is take one day at a time and breathe thru it. Dont let it pull you down and keep you there...push thru BELIEVING there is a light at the end of the Stress Tunnell. Use the stress as motivation for your workout as well...that can help sometimes and may even push you harder then you normally would.
With the things you CAN control, dont take on more then you can handle...keep the CONTROLLED part of your life as simple as possible for awhile and things will level out...sometimes just to start up again but, you'll have better control the next time...and the next time after that and so on!
GOOD LUCK and BOY, do i KNOW how you feel!!! :-)0 -
Yes, Macpacman has great ideas! I want to add: Be excellent to yourself.
No one is perfect. Some days I'm really happy when I manage to just stay within my maintenance calories. Some days I only can get myself to go for a short, slow walk. Some days I go completely overboard, watch the whole second season of Arrested Development and eat 4,000 calories. But then the next day, I wake up and try to do better. I remind myself that this is a change I am making for life! So little things are important and worth celebrating, especially when the big things are intimidating and seem far away.0 -
thanks for the replies everyone. School and family health issues are definitely the biggest items in my life right now. I definitely miss the gym when i can't go, many times its the stress eating that gets to me... mindless, and LOTS of empty calories....But i appreciate your support.0

Remember to take deep breaths during the day, as deep breathing calms you, lowering stress levels (and subsequently your cortisol levels).
Hang in there! =]0 -

YES! This school year has been very stressful for me. I have always been a stress eater so that doesn't help things at all. The main things that help me are keeping snacks to a minimum (as in I don't buy them) and to plan out the day the night before. It doesn't always keep me on track but I'm 10x better when I log the night before0

Good Morning! YES...I'm sure that we ALL get hit with this at one time or another, as a matter of fact I'm going through some things at this point as well...but as another post said, this issues are still going to be there whether I exercise or not so I continue to get up in the morning and do my walk as usual and it actually does me good because this IS something that I can have control over whereas I can't control the everyday bumps and bruises and hiccups of every day life! Hang-in there and remain positive, keep your head-up and if you believe in a Higher Power, keep believing and trusting that He will work it all out!!!!0
