I'm 38 year old guy from Kansas City. I'm probably about 20lbs over weight but haven't exercised or ate well my whole life. Genetics helped me stay trim for most of my life but the last 5 years it really started to catch up. I just started an intense boxing/kickboxing workout thats supposed to burn up to 1000 calories. I dove in head first even though i'm way out of shape but today was my 3rd day this week- just started eating better yesterday. I know its early but how soon will I start to feel a difference? I think I gained 3 lbs already. Well wish me luck! Thanks guys!

Welcome to MFP. Just remember, its a lifestyle change, not a diet. Eat clean (no processed foods or soda), drink water, and keep moving. I wish I had started years ago.0

All I can tell you is what happened for me in the beginning, but that doesn't mean it will work the same way for you. Now that you've started eating right, you should start to FEEL a difference within a few days. You will feel less sluggish and less bloated. You'll start to notice that it's a little easier to breathe, and your clothes won't feel so constricting. However, it may take a week or more to notice a difference on the scale. I'd recommend against weighing in every day. Don't weigh more than once per week, and you should take body measurements and body fat measurements because the scale doesn't always tell the whole story. Before photos can also be an encouraging way to measure your success. Good luck!0 -
from Kansas City too, I have the opposite problem lol
Genetics are not my friend and so I've fought to get this weight off forever

Thanks for the tips guys. I was never a huge sodapop guy so thats easy. But I used to eat burgers and chilidogs and crap like that all the time. That's going to be the only hard part. I love meat but know i have to do it in moderation. I also used to drink quite a bit and that is gone now too. So we will see where it goes but I am so excited about it its all I think about!0

Thanks again for all the posts. I know I'm supposed to eat a lot at breakfast. I haven't at breakfast in years. Now I work out at 6AM and immediately drink a protein shake after. Then I'm full- should I still try to force down some eggs? This morning I had an apple and some almonds as midmorning snack but that's it until lunch probably.0

I work out in the evenings because my work schedule won't allow me to work out in the a.m. unless I get up at 4:30am...and that AIN'T happenin'! :noway: What I do is 6am breakfast, 10am snack, 11:30am lunch, 1:30pm snack, 3:30pm dinner, 5:30-7pm workout, post workout recovery snack (high protein), bed time around 9:30-10pm. Maybe you could try a variation of this. 5:30am light breakfast, 6am workout, post workout recovery protein shake, midmorning snack, lunch, etc...0 -
I joined a few months ago, did not stay with it. I am giving it another try. wish me luck!0

But wait! You don't have to eat breakfast at all if you don't want to. If it helps you get through the day feeling better, do it. If not, don't. Eat when you're hungry, not because someone told you that it was the best idea to eat at a certain time. Remember, if you don't want breakfast, you can eat those calories later in the day when you're actually hungry.0
