Is Travelling a Monkey Wrench in a Diet Plan?

I am leaving tomorrow for a five day trip to help plan my son's wedding. It will be five days of being away from home, travelling by car, eating, drinking and socializing with friends. I have set up some mini goals for myself to minimize the damage I might do to my healthy changes. I have lost 14 pounds since the start of this year and don't want to backslide before wedding season.
I could use smart travelling tips from others. Feel free to check out my blog for the mini-goals I have set.
Thanks alot!

Have a workout routine you can do in your bedroom/hotel room. There are lots of things you can do in your room to get a good workout in and no one would even know it but you :)

Have things in your purse that are handy if you get a craving. Like whole grain granola bars, soy joy bars or some lean beef jerky. I also keep sugar free gum in my purse so that I would have to find a place to spit out my gum in order to eat those calorie packed treats offered at functions :)

Hang in there!!! You'll do great :)

I just called a hotel where I am travelling, and they have a deal with a local health club where guests can work out for free!!! Doesn't hurt to ask?

Beef jerky healthy? I never heard of that. How about making some home made granola before you go and put them in little baggies so you have something healthy and filling?

Hey! Sounds like a fun trip! I always try to minimize the eating out, and to make the best food choices possible. Also, I try to bring/pack snacks like fruit or granola bars, etc. Things that I KNOW the calorie count for. Also, I find car traveling ideal for doing meal replacement shakes for breakfast and lunch and then having a nice sit-down dinner. I also try to work in as much exercise as possible (which is a challenge). Anyway-those are my tips. Hope you have a great trip!

When I travel I like to look for a hotel with a gym, or google search for gyms close by. Often times I can get a day or week pass and go a couple times while I'm on vacation. If not, I like to go for walks or jogs, do yoga (mats are light and fit in large suitcases! :)), and/or do a circuit lifting routine that gets my heart pumping! If you get a couple water bottles for light weights or bring an exercise band (cheap and easy to carry!), they can add to the workout!
For example, I'll warm up by jogging or marching in place and doing arm circles, and then do the following circuit 2-4 times, 12-15 reps each: Pushups, squats with shoulder press (with bottles or band), bicycle crunches, tricep dips off a couch or chair, bicep curls (with water bottles or band) with lunges, and a 30 second-1 minute plank (or other abdominal exercise). I'll go right from one exercise to the other without stopping, and take a 1 minute break at the end before I repeat it. You can add or use other exercises too...it gets me sweating, and I can get it done in 20 minutes, so it doesn't take too much time away from family! :) I do this every other day, and in the in-between days I'll go for a walk or jog for 20-40 minutes and/or do some yoga in the morning upon waking. Also going for nice walks in the morning and after dinner with a friend/family member for 10-15 minutes is great, it'll help digestion, get you moving, and give you time to chat...it's all about squeezing it in when you can! You don't have to work out for an hour straight, 10-15 minutes here and there all add up! Hope this helps!! :)

    Whenever I travel I pack:

    A case of bottled waters
Oatmeal (can heat up water in hotel coffee pot)
    100 calorie packs
Bubble gum (keeps me from continously eating while sitting in the car)
Limit to no more than one alcoholic beverage per night
Eating out - try to share with someone or see if you can order from kids menu
