Just thinking of getting a Fitbit to help nail my actual BMR, when it occurred to me that I could just wear an HRM for 24 hours for a couple of days.
Wouldn't that work better?

That would work, but mine would drive me crazy...beeping at me the whole time because I'm not in 'the zone.'0

Mine just sends data to my iphone. No problems there.0

Anyone else have an opinion on this?0

i did it. got 2600 on an off day. Might have been accurate... because I eat 2100 to 2000 cals to lose.0

It is my understanding that HRM's only estimate your calorie burn given your heart rate, age, gender etc. And they are more accurate during moderate to intense exercise. I'm not sure how accurate they would be for other times. I had a similar thought so I googled it before deciding it would not work well.0

            I've put it on.
Won't cost me more than a day to figure it out. Problem is, I don't know when I'll have a "normal" inactive day next. At the gym tomorrow, at the beach over the weekend.0

I've so wondered the same thing. I would need to do it for a week and "average" based upon my activities since they change from day to day. Would you pick an "inactive" day just to get a base sans exercise - or would it be better to include exercise and not eat your calories back?0

1 hour, 20 minutes in to it and I'm already having my doubts.
Doing almost nothing, sitting around, brief trip to the store...I'm averaging 5 calories per minute.
5 calories per minute X 60 minutes =300 calories per hour
 300 calories per hour x 24 hours = 7,200 calories per day.
 That's crazy.
 Am I missing something?
 Adding....
Ok, Actually just sitting is about 3 calories or less per minute. So, desk time and sleep time will take off dramatically from my total.0

Since I wear my HRM for exercise, I'd pick an inactive day for a baseline, then add the calories burned during exercise. Not sure about eating back your calories. I just started eating back half.0

14+ hours of wearing the HRM.
More than half of that was sleeping. No exercising.
 So far...
 2150 calories
 61 bpm avg heart rate
As I sit at my desk, my at rest HR hovers between 55 and 60 bpm.0

            4000 calories, not counting exercise.
That's what I come up with. Seems very high.0
