Space when you live in the same little house?

My boyfriend and I have been living together for only 6 months and we're just starting to have issues with how much space we want and time alone to ourselves. He has made a bigger point of it than me and says he constantly feels he has to hang out with me when we're both home. I do work like 4 days a week...so I don't get what he's talking about really;...he constantly has the has to himself!
I must admit, I would really like to just be by myself sometimes too but again, I feel like that time should be spent together.

How can I give him his space...what is your SO like when it comes to that?

  • Well, we spend time with each other pretty much everyday. We both have no friends (sad, right?) and just stay in playing video games together every day. We have a small apartment, so it's either the living room or bedroom if we want to be separate, and it just feels weird being within 15 feet. I find that when I want space, I'll just take a drive out to the park or go shopping, or he'll walk the dog or just tune out on the TV when he wants some alone time.

I would love to help. Perhaps he and/or you need a hobby outside the home.

Unfortunately for me I live away from my fiance and son 4 days/week so I simply don't get enough time with them when I am home. However before this arrangement we used to do our thing apart a lot. Weekends I would usually be fishing somewhere for about 8 hours/day. We have a number of friends that we hang with together and apart.

I must be doubly blessed. If we aren't working at our jobs, my husband and I are almost always together. We go grocery shopping together, we do chores around the house together. We don't seem to need time apart from each other. We do enjoy different activities but we are usually doing them in the presence of the other person. Very infrequent are the times when we are doing something completely apart from each other and then we are missing each other during that time.

That's pretty much how it is for me too. I kind of like it.

Is your presence irritating him? Maybe you need to talk about that.

If it's just that he needs to unravel his own thoughts and feels he can't perhaps HE is the one with a problem, maybe he needs a hobby?

I play in my kitchen an awful lot, I really like to cook and if I'm in there making a mess and experimenting everyone knows it's in their benefit to leave me the hell alone because they will make out in the deal with deliciousness! LOL I also really LOVE mowing the lawn and doing other yard work because everyone leaves you alone or they get put to work too so I get hours of exercise and alone time!

If you have two separate tvs, watch something different for a couple of hours, then get back together for the evening news.

My boyfriend and I are long distance during the school year and live together during breaks (about 5 months of the year). When we are together, we live in a very small apartment.

We both need alone time or we start to get pissy. It's just our personalities - one of the reasons I don't have a roommate at college haha. Since it's a small place, one of us will hang out in the bedroom and the other in the living room, just for a few hours. Then we hang out together. When we figured that out, our lives got a lot better! Haha.

    Just break up!
  • You have a lot of threads on here on the issues you and he are having. From separate beds, no passion, and not wanting to spend time with you now. I would say there are issues you have to work out. Try talking to him instead of us. KNOW that everyone deserves happiness. Just sayin

You forgot the "there is no passion" thread too.

Yeah I accidentally dug this old thread up by posting in the wrong one. Too many windows open. Not paying attention.

    Oh well. Here:

I'd like to change my response to:

    Just break up.
