Is whole wheat bad for you ?

I asked a question in a weight loss group about knowing if certain food made of whole wheat, and i got this reply
IMO, you're better of going with the white bread if you must have bread. I would personally recommend eliminating all grains since as humans we were not designed to eat them. They are toxic and contain antinutrients. Fiber itself creates its own problems.
Here is an excep from the book, "Fiber Menace":

This is the first time i have ever heard of this! What are your thoughts about this.

I recently discovered that my digestive issues were caused by wheat. No wheat = no problems.0

I subscribe to the 'anti-grain' theory.
Now, that's not to say I will never have another grain, I just don't want a lot of them in my diet.
I think there is a lot of intolerance to them out there that people are just living with.
No bread, pasta or rice in my world right now, hasn't been for some months now ... I seem to be doing OK

I guess you have heard of 'Wheat Belly'? It's a good read ... http://www.wheatbellyblog.com/

No scientific evidence here - but I would prefer to eat whole wheat rather than over processed white bread or flour0

yes. amazingly I blamed it on dairy for 9 years.0 -
My opinion:
If you don't have any issue processing/digesting it (NCGI/Celiac) then no, it's not unhealthy.
Are there more nutrient dense carb sources? Yes. But does that make wheat bad for you? No.0 -
Wheat bread is fine. Unless you have celiac disease.0

I've heard this before but haven't looked into it myself. I don't think it's causing any problems for me but I have heard that because it is cheaply produced we are told to eat plenty of it ... "our daily bread" ... when the truth is that we're being conditioned to count poverty as a blessing without complaint: "Let them eat bread".0

Whole grains are not "toxic" unless you're allergic to them. Otherwise, they are a great source of fiber, which helps lower cholesterol and regulates digestion. They can also help with weight loss since they keep you full much longer than simple carbs. And the "anti-nutrient" claim is BS. There are far more nutients in whole wheat than in simple carbs.0

I think the most important bit of that sentence was "IMO".
Its just one person's opinion. Carbs and wheat provoke different reactions (both physical and emotional!) in different people, and this is an area where its worth experimenting to see what works for YOUR body.
For me, I like a really good quality seeded bread, but I only have 1 slice a few times a week. It keeps in the freezer, and I toast it from frozen. I find that carbs make me bloat and irritate my hiatus hernia, so I limit them.
But your body will treat them differently. Notice how you feel after a sandwich, for instance. Do you prefer the taste of white bread over whole wheat?0 -
I stopped eating nearly 2 weeks ago and i feel great for it, no indigestion and a real improvement on my life.
I still eat plenty of carbs though, cutting wheat (and wheat products) is certainly NOT going to remove all carbs from your diet if cutting all gluten doesnt.
My husband stopped eating gluten 4 days ago and feels amazing today, he says he feels like a different man and is amazed he has been living with such a drag in his life for so long.
i would recommend ANYONE quit gluten, just for a week or two and see how they feel, I am not saying everyone is intolerant to gluten but i think most people are to a less or more degree. Experimenting to see how it is affecting you personally can only be a good thing.
I have not heard one story of someone stopping gluten and feeling bad for it.0 -

Wheat bread is fine. Unless you have celiac disease.
Except celiac disease can be either asymptomatic or have a variety of low grade symptoms that are difficult to associate with Gliadin sensitivity. I would suggest that it is reasonable, especially in pre-diabetic or individuals with non-specific malaise (low energy, etc), to give a week or more of gluten free a try, then revert, then try again - this type of self awareness can only be a good thing.
I'm considering doing a tTGA test on one of my daughter as she complains after certain meals and has shown a lot less growth than her sisters.
Exploring different avenues.People with celiac disease have higher than normal levels of certain autoantibodies—proteins that react against the body's own cells or tissues—in their blood. To diagnose celiac disease, doctors will test blood for high levels of anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTGA) or anti-endomysium antibodies (EMA). If test results are negative but celiac disease is still suspected, additional blood tests may be needed.0 -
