What trousers should I wear

Hi, bit of a weird question I suppose but I am trying to change my 'look' a bit and be generally smarter. I have bought a couple of smart casual jackets and shirts but I tend to just wear jeans a lot. I am a little concerned about looking like Clarkson if I wear a black jacket with jeans and a shirt.

Any advice?

Khakis are alway a realiable choice. Dress em up, dress em down.

agreed, usually a decent choice :)
  • How about combining your shirt and jacket with a nice scarf? I think it makes all the difference. And I prefer a greyer shade of blue on jeans. Love jeans that fit; not too baggy but to skinny jeans either. A nice white V-neck shirt always scores points for me :). I love the basic/casual look. I'm NOT a fan of khaki's...

If you have Pinterest; there's so much inspiration on there!!

I think the question came from a male, so I'm not sure that scarves and V-necked shirts will do much for him!

Jeans and jacket, as you say, can look very "Clarkson" (That's Jeeremy, a rather loud-mouthed and badly dressed TV presenter, for those unfamiliar with him)

But chinos or other smart trousers will look great with a jacket! At the very least, avoid the old-school blue denim jeans. Go for black if you can.

Since when do guys not wear scarves and V-necks??

White v-neck shirt, blue jeans and jacket. Seems pretty masculine to me!

Guy with scarf and jacket. No boobies to be seen.

PS: I don't care much about these scarves, but you get the point!

personally i love a guy in well fitted jeans (not too big or baggy), a nice shirt, open collar, a good belt and a jacket to pull it together. this is the way the general italian dresses and they look amazing!

Tweed. Men should almost always wear tweed. Unless on safari when linen is appropriate.

From time to time I like the jeans and a jacket look but yes, it can be a bit overly casual. I'm NOT a fan of khakis with dark jackets unless it's a sweater under the jacket rather than a button up shirt. It just looks too much like something my dad or grandpa would wear  Sorry I'm mostly just good at describing what I don't like more than what I do like....I look at something and say "oh I like that" if I don't like it then it sticks in my head (like the khaki's with a dark jacket:noway:

If you love your jeans, keep them but change the style and color. I nice pair of black demin jean looks nice and that can help you ease into your new look effortlessly!

When we say "shirts" do we mean Tshirts? (Cos yes V necked can look good, depending) Or button up the front style? (Again, I dont think I've seen V necked button up shirts for men, but hey, anything goes!)

Scarves? Like a cravat? Or a thick woolly Dr Who style one?

Ha! Good old Gustav. Turned up to an Adam Ant gig in a tweed suit and a fedora. gotta love him. :-)

Black dress pants with black t shirts works for casual. Most dress pants are more comfortable than jeans anyhow. Get a nice black or brown leather Nemesis watch to "accessorize" and maybe a leather sport coat.
