Are you breastfeeding? If so you should be eating more.

Yeah - you need to eat alot more... your exercising and only eating 1200 calories is exactly the reason....... Eat for health!!!!!!!

Plateaus happen to most of us. They've happened to me a couple of times. Its extremely frustrating and hard to keep going and motivated when the weight isn't moving.

I had exactly your issue. My weight totally stalled for ages. I started eating more (about 13-1400 per day) and i've lost 2lbs every week since!
  • right al give this one a go haha ,a get stressed thinking am a gonna eat too much an put weight on .thanks xx

try a reset week where you eat at maintainence, then (if you exercise) make sure you eat at least 1200/1400 calories a day

I have the same problem, I have been on and off diets since I had my son 6 years ago!!

I now have a PT and he has calculated how many calories I should eat per day (1366), which I am sticking too, but I am not allowed to eat extra when I have excercised.. I have put weight back on this week, which is really frustrating and demotivating, as I am trying my hardest at the moment, due to a holiday in 9 weeks.

Some people have commented that I should be eating more, but too scared to go above my 1366, as in the past the weight has just gone on so easily.

It is hard to say if 1200 is too little without more information. How much are you trying to lose, for one, and with your height, weight and age, you can figure out what your BMR is (that is the amount they would feed you in a coma just to fuel your basic bodily functions). And you can figure out your estimated TDEE (total daily energy expenditure, this is the number where you would stay the same, also called maintenance). You should eat 10 - 20% less than TDEE to lose weight (depending on how much you need to lose).

For some people, 1200 is less than their BMR, and it really doesn't make sense to eat less than the amount they would feed you just to keep you alive, you know? Some people, if they are extremely obese, can do that for a time without doing any harm, but it's not a good plan unless it is absolutely necessary.

    ^^THIS

This is an excellent idea. You will really benefit from eating more. Really you have no idea what a difference it makes.

As for your being afraid to eat more incase you gain weight- please remember that your body burns calories just by bodily processes such as breathing, pumping blood around your body etc. This is called your Basal Metabolic Rate or BMR. (If you go into "tools" there's a calculator in there which will give you an estimate of yours). So basically if you stayed in bed tomorrow all day long, your body would burn this amount of calories. Mine is around 1500. So even if you ate that amount of calories, you would not gain weight- especially seeing as you're exercising! You would more than likely still lose weight.

you definitely need to eat more, just make sure you get plenty of protein. Plan on the 1200 on days you don't workout and replenish the calories burned on workout days. You will be taking it off slowly but it will stay off and you will build muscle which helps naturally burns calories. You will see plateaus along the way but keep going.
