I have just recently started to workout 5 times a week in the evenings and I'm not sure if I should eat before my workout or after? How long should I wait to eat or workout? or does it even matter?

Thanks guys

It is really a personal preference however, I seem to get more accomplished if I workout THEN eat dinner, clean up etc
Usually though I eat dinner, wait an hour then workout.

If I'm doing a strength workout, I can get away with only waiting 30mins but if it's cardio, I'll feel like I'm going to puke

It depends on the type of workout you're doing and personal preference.

If I'm running after work I'll usually have a small mid-afternoon snack (a couple of pieces of fruit) and head out as soon as I get home (I prefer to run on an empty stomach)

If I'm doing my weights in the evening I'll eat first otherwise I don't feel I've got the energy to work at a high enough intensity and I'll usually wait at least an hour or so after eating.

We're all an experiment of 1, it takes a little trial and error (hopefully not too much error) to find what works best for you.

My trainer has told me that when you do an intense strength training work out, you should try to eat something with protein within 20 minutes after for muscle recovery, and that's the only real rule I try to go by with work outs. I think the rest is preference. I just feel awful if I work out on a full stomach so I try to time my meals to be at least a half hour before I work out
