Is pork considered healthy?

I eat pork roast regularly and I've lost weight doing it, but I have no clue if it's healthy or not. The state of our food has gotten so bad that if I were going to bother to find out, the first thing I'd look at would be the amount of antiobiotics and hormones used in pork compared to beef.

Pork is a great source of protein, like other meats. Depending on the cut, the fat content will vary just like any other meat. Some will argue that commercially raised and slaughtered pork is "unclean" and/or "unethical". Processed pork products like sausage, bacon, hotdogs, etc. can have a lot of unhealthy additives and preservatives and consistent intake of high fat processed meat has been linked in some reearch data to health problems/disease.

OH man that is a adorable pig. I actually only eat grass fed hormone free cow, and I get my pork directly from a local farm.

To be fair, a friend of mine fed my pig a piece of bacon. She LOVED it, and begged like crazy for more. Little cannibal.

Yep. Pigs will eat each other. I hear they'll eat people, too, if you ever want to get rid of a body.

Anything can fit into your diet if it fits your macros.

I think that particular pig would fit my macros perfectly! How much is he?

Some people think red meat is from the devil. Me, I eat pork, but it's grass fed (lower in fat and organic) and lean. I lose weight with it, but you asked if it was healthy.

Meat as long as cooked correctly is fine unless you have a meat aversion!

My hubby said OMG what is that when I was cooking a pork loin steak for dinner, he says I could not eat pork...but he loves bacon go figure lol!

Such an awesome little pet! Way easier than a dog, so snuggly, smart, sweet, and all around a great animal. :)

With all due respect to the little pet pig (I hope she can't read), pork tenderloin, medium rare. That's what I had for lunch today. Tender, juicy and not too bad on fat.

Switching my picture to pork tenderloin for the occasion.

We eat pork all the time - even more than chicken. Yum - and low fat.

I read recently that today's pork is much leaner than in the past. I have no problem including pork loin in my diet - check the nutrition label.

As long as you eat pork that is raised in healthy conditions (check with a local farm) and given healthy food to eat, it is probably safe to consume. Pork is higher in zinc than other meats and we don't usually get enough zinc in our diets as N. American soils are zinc-poor. On the other hand, you might want to stay away from fatty pork products as high pork consumption is linked to liver disease. There is contained in pork fat a fat that is, for humans, non-digestible. Be aware that pigs will eat virtually ANYTHING. During the Great Depression, many farmers fed cow manure to their pigs. Apparently the pigs really liked it. Ugh!
