HELP... Major withdrawls

Ive tried to lose weight and quit fast food to become healthy time and time again however I always go through the same thing about 2 or 3 days in... Major withdrawls like full blown withdrawls. I shake, become on edge and moody, hot and cold flashes, hard core sweating and so bad to the point that i actually get sick and vomit. Its exactly like a drug addict going through drug withdrawls. I am dead serious about losing weight this time and my boyfriend has also joined the site and on the weight loss journey as well. So that being said I am looking for so suggestions and help on how to ease the symptoms and get through that stage. Any advice is welcome!

If you are vomiting from fast food withdrawals, it's time to see a doctor. Seriously. While some headaches/mood swings can be normal when changing to a healthier lifestyle (mine lasted a week or so), it sounds like you may have something more serious going on.0

Can you make slow changes? For example, slowly reduce your fast food meals and make healthier choices at fast food restaurants0

Have you tried cutting back gradually? It might be easier to make the adjustment if you aren't quitting all at once, and if the transition is easier it will probably last longer.0

If you are vomiting from fast food withdrawals, it's time to see a doctor. Seriously. While some headaches/mood swings can be normal when changing to a healthier lifestyle (mine lasted a week or so), it sounds like you may have something more serious going on.
^^ This. Moody, sweaty and edgy, fine. But getting sick when you're not eating junkfood doesn't sound good. Go get a check up and ask for advice on how to deal with this.

Yes I'd be seeing a Dr. Going through fast food withdraws should not be that hard nor do that to you. Even going through coke withdraws didnt do that to most people.0

okay! i got this story,i have no clue if it's going to help but let me share it!
okay,i had kidney stone surgery cause a kidneystone was lodged and couldnt move through my tube into my bladder so i couls pass it. well after the surgery i was told to drink a bottle of water and hour for two weeks! yeah! but, i was so ADDICTED TO cocacola it was unreal,but,it had to do with my health..So, i sucked it up didnt drink coke and did the whole water thing every hour for two weeks.. wanna know what,after five or six days i didnt have a coke and i had all that water, well, soda smelled bad to me and when i tasted it ( i know i wasnt supposed to but i thought i was dying without it.) it was SO NASTY!!
moral of the story you can do it..i did it. cause i was a 6 pack a day fountain drink in the morning,fountain drink at nighter on top of that!
maybe go to the doctor about the vomiting ! because i promise after you start eating healthy eventually you'll be able to go without it!0 -
i had the same problems, minus the vomiting. instead of going cold turkey, slowly decrease the amount of junk you are eating. it was hard, but i have managed to stay away from fastfood pretty well. i still have it sometimes but every time i do, i feel so sick afterwards and regret it - which iguess is a good thing!!!0

I havent logged anything this time round i figured before i began my go at it this time. Id try to find a way around the problem. I usually eat alot if fruit, chicken, cheese, roast, turkey, potatoes, ALOT of water ( i hate pop) canned foods (raviolli, beefaroni, soup) bread, kraft dinner, pork chops, the odd homemade pizza. Those kind of things.0 -
If it's making you feel that crappy I would use that to triple my motivation to stop eating the stuff. Seriously, it sounds like you're poisoning yourself or something. Go see a doctor, maybe you need some carbon tablets or something to soak up the acid and chemicals in your system.0

People quit smoking, people quit drinking and people quit all sort of addictions. Write down your reasons for wanting to get healthier and also write the ways you can immediately change your daily life to begin to accomplish those goals. Then go for it and review your why reasons as often as needed. Keep a journal each day of how you're coping, how you're feeling and what you want to accomplish the following day. Read it from time to time. Log into MFP everyday and you'll be surprised... I bet new habits begin to form. and for goodness sake, start preparing most food at home. Good luck to you!0

I usually eat alot if fruit, chicken, cheese, roast, turkey, potatoes, ALOT of water ( i hate pop) canned foods (raviolli, beefaroni, soup) bread, kraft dinner, pork chops, the odd homemade pizza. Those kind of things.

I wouldn't be surprised if your withdrawal is mostly psychological. It is utterly amazing the effect our mind can have on our body.0

raviolli, beefaroni = a lot of salt!
I know the salt content is insane however at work with no fridge kinda limits what i can bring for meals.0 -

^ Years ago, I would have thought you were crazy reading this. I eat clean. Once a year (if that) I might go out with friends while they are eating at some restaurant.It does not matter which one and it does not matter what I eat. I have the same reason as you. It is like a drug addition withdraw. You would never believe without seeing. I believe you - since I have experienced it first hand, For me, the worst thing is breaking down in hives. This is bad for they get into my throat and multiply and I can't breath.

Stick it out.
As much as you don't wanna hear this, that's all there is to do.
Also distance yourself from the places and home cook all your meals.
It's hard but sooo worth it! if I could go from eating maccas 5x a day whilst working there (got it for free) to not eating it whilst still working there, anyone can do it. I didn't eat it for 6+ months before I quit the job.0 -
I think you might want to taper off instead of going cold turkey. Make a specific plan, like, cut out X number of fast food meals until you feel okay with it, then cut out a few more and so on. Progress is progress; don't feel like you have to rush. The point is to make your goal, not make it in a particular amount of time.0

get a insulated lunch box and a couple of ice packs. Then you can take real food. I do this each day for my dh he take left over from dinner every day.0

Well, try to change your habits slowly. Keep eating fast food for some times but take healthier meals (i.e if you go to McDonald's, take McNuggets instead of a bigmac, etc)
also, it may be psychosomatic; when I was in high-school I've been ill for a month. I couldn't go outside without feeling nauseous. At first I was really ill, but for the last 3 weeks I made myself sick because I was afraid of still being sick... some sort of vicious circle. :grumble:
anyway, psychosomatic or real, this could be dangerous as Ladytinkerbel said, so don't try to stop fast food overnight, you may have to do cessation.0 -

As far as I know there is no evidence that fast food is PHYSICALLY addictive, the way nicotine, alcohol and drugs are. It sounds to me like you are experiencing extreme anxiety; possibly overcome with fear at the changes you know you need to make to your diet?? Having too lose a lot of weight can probably be quite overwhelming so I would recommend seeing a doctor about getting some emotional support.0 -
I love fast foods and have a major sweet tooth. That being said, for me, I just found healthier alternatives. Instead of burgers, I got turkey burgers and cooked them myself. Then when I was comfortable with that, instead of turkey burgers, I ate 3 slices of cold cuts on whole wheat. As for sweets, I eat a bunch of fruits, the fructose (fruit sugar) is sweeter than any chocolate out there.
It's all about taking what you like, finding a healthier option, and then cutting back gradually. Soon your small changes become a new habit!0 -

Whether it is psychological or not,a doctor has to be consulted. They will properly advise you. Advice or guessing doesn't replace a proper diagnosis. GO. It's the smart thing to do. We are all behind you regardless of the result, and we'll all be here when you get back.
