what are your running superstitions?

I have been athletic my whole life and never really bought into the lucky socks or any other superstitious mannerisms before competing.....until I started running. My journey started in March of this year. Was never a runner and had signed up for a Warrior Dash. This little race would change my life....drastically! The wonderful trails that I used to hike in the woods suddenly became my running (more like jalking in the beginning) trails. Start stop. Start stop. Fast forward to today where I run 10+ miles every Sunday morning. I have experienced many trials and errors along this journey, being such a newbie was a definite disadvantage at my age. Anyway, I have since gotten into the habit, albeit superstition, that every Saturday night I MUST have 2-3 cinnamon sugar Auntie Annes pretzels. I swear they give me wings on Sunday mornings. I have had the most kick *kitten* runs consistently since starting this *ahem* regimen. :)))) I have graduated to more difficult mud runs and have fallen into a sinfully wonderful habit of some cajun pasta or pizza, said Auntie Annes pretzels and possibly a large chocolate cone from DQ. French toast with real ooey gooey syrup for breakfast then a protein shake shortly before the race. Every race has been a success and I admit to feeling anxious making sure that I will have all I "need" prior to race day.

So tell me....am I completely nuts for thinking such things or do you have your own superstitions for running, racing or competing?

I gotta get me some of those pretzels.
Sounds to me like you probably just need the extra calories for the long run, and you have let it wheedle its little way into your psyche.
In medicine, they talk about a placebo effect -- that is, if you believe it is going to work, even a sugar pill just might work. I say: go with it!
I am not so superstitious about running. Now, playing soccer I always had particular socks. But it was more about feeling comfortable, than wearing something imbued...

I have to drink AMP Lemonade the morning of a big run. I have to have caffeine, but have convinced myself that coffee is horrible before a run and refuse to drink sodas for a week before....the AMP is non-carbonated and has vitamins, so I've also convinced myself that it's good for me too. LOL So far, so good though. :)

    Warning: TMI ahead!

No superstitions but I always feel like I have to pee every 30 seconds before I go out to run! lol

I never wear the race shirt until I've actually finished the race. That's the closest thing to a superstition around running that I have.

Totally agree about the race shirt.

And there is NO way I can run without my gps- I'm pretty sure my legs won't work without it.
