SO HUNGRY!

Trying to eat all my exercise calories, but I'm SO HUNGRY all day! I was never this hungry when I was trying to eat only 1200 cal even after exercising.

Having some chocolate chai tea now to help curb it. Sheesh!! Anybody else having this problem? What do you do to help?

    Decrease your sugar intake if you can. I find when I eat sweet foods it make me way hungrier! Eat high protein foods instead of snacky foods if you can I find on the days I snack a lot I'm twice as hungry as when I don't which is ironic but a spike in your blood sugar can make you muchie

    First of all if you're truly hungry, eat. However are you sure that you are well hydrated? Sometimes we mistake thirst for hunger. So I would say drink a big glass of water and if your still hungry in 10 to 20 minutes then eat something but stay in control. How does that sound?

    You are burning a lot of calories and obviously working out a lot. Think about adjusting your carb and protein percentages in your macros. I upped my protein and lowered my carbs and it helps keep me sated most of the day.

    I didn't have it happen so much when I was over weight and I ate less. I've been maintaining for over a year now and I've found that hunger kind of comes in cycles. I've learned to eat lower when it feels okay to do so, and then higher other times, but my hunger is quite different now operating under 12% body fat for over a year now. It seemed more consistent when I was overweight but it increased when I was under stress or didn't get enough sleep, which is normal.

    I have the same problem - when I was eating 1200, I was eating primarily protein and green veggies so I could stay at my calorie target. Increasing my calories gives me more room for junk, which makes me crave more food, and not the good stuff. Just try to make those calories double servings of chicken instead of a chocolate bar or a glass of wine... But if you're not eating junk and you're really and truly hungry, eat. Your body tells you when it needs nutrition.

    Chocolate chai tea is amazing!

    Increase your protein intake. You don't need to go extreme high protein/low carb. That isn't necessary.

    However, you do need to make sure that you take in a bit more protein when you ingest carbohydrates.

    When you eat a carbohydrate heavy meal or snack your blood sugar will spike. Then your pancreas releases insulin in order to reduce the blood sugar. This results in your blood sugar dropping drastically. When your blood sugar is low your body signals (screams) EAT. This starts the cycle of crave/eat/crave/eat.

    If, instead, you take in a good balance of protein along with the carbohydrate, then the insulin response will be moderated by the protein. You will end up feeling fuller longer.

    Yes, it looks like I had a bit more sugar than allotted for today (two lattes!)---but when you subtract the sugar that was in fruits and veggies today, I only went over sugar 2-3. Not bad. I ate a LOT of protein today---beans, nuts, etc. I was only 3 under on protein. I was under on carbs, and got a lot of fiber. I drank a LOT of water---and I'm having some now again.

    How long has this been going on? I find the week or so before my period I am VERY hungry is it possible thats it?

    What we are saying is that you need to increase your protein above the defaults set by myfitnesspal.

    You can manually adjust your macronutrient settings by going to the My Home tab and clicking Goals. Then select Change Goals, and select Custom.

    Increase your protein by 5-10% and reduce your fat and carbohydrates by a corresponding amount of your choosing (either taking it all from carbs or taking some from carb and some from fat).

    I think I'm less snacky when I start my day with eggs. I also have cups of tea at morning tea (try to, if I have time) and I have one at night time after dinner so stop those dessert cravings. If I'm at home I will have a few coffees during the day and I count them as my snacks - and I try to remember to keep my water intake up! That has probably helped me the most :)

    Oh, I see. Interesting, I will try that. Thanks!

    This hasn't been going on long, just the past few days when I ate all my burned calories. I read that some others experienced the same thing when they began doing that.

    I love starting the day with eggs---that definitely helps!
  • eat a bunch of cucumbers :) haha. if you are really as hungry as you say, you will eat just about anything. and cucumbers are so low cal and taste great!

    I hope you don't mind, but I took a peak at your food diary;
    Here are my suggestions;
    Eat a hot breakfasts and dinners, especially with a good portion of protein. This will keep you fuller, longer.

    a protein dense snack after a work out helps.

    If you get hungry after dinner a hot sandwich helps immensely. an egg sandwich on toasted bread can easily run you less than 3 ca's. a hot, home made burrito. When adding cheese, choose wisely. It can make up to a 20 cal difference, so do bread an tortillas.

    Thanks for all the tips!! I worked really hard yesterday to get as much protein as possible—made a protein shake after my workout and some other mods—and it DID help! Still feeling hungry at times, but not terribly so, and feeling much more energy! Thank you all :)
