A gluten free diet is NOT a low carb diet
Gluten does not = carbs
it is perfectly possibly to have a low carb diet and still eat gluten
it is perfectly possible to have a high carb diet and not eat gluten.
When people come on here, and say they are going gluten free, it is not because they are following a 'faddy trashy diet' it is for a whole host of reasons that it would be nice if you all would bother to learn before jumping to negative and judgemental conclusions.

I eat GF, im assuming you do too? People do tend to bash quickly, thinking that I'm doing it simply to lose weight faster and they tend to treat me like im doing it because i have no knowledge of nutrition when in fact I do! It is quite annoying I agree....0 -

Been gluten free for 2 weeks now (still a newbie) best thing i ever did. Enjoy food more, dont eat crap, dont suffer from fatigue and my indigestion problems have gone!
Its marvellous, have convinced my hubby to do the same and he agrees! Its not 'just' about weightloss, it isnt really about weightloss at all, its about health!0 -
I agree that people shouldn't make assumptions when someone says they're going gluten free. But, to play devil's advocate, there ARE people who go gluten-free because they equate it with a low-carb diet and think they will lose weight faster, and I understand why that would be irritating to people who know better and want to help that person when they post here.
So in the end, we all need to ask questions and know what you're dealing with before we make a comment or jump on someone, which I guess was the point of your post.I'll stop rambling now, lol.

It would not have crossed my mind to cut gluten out of sauces, spices for anything but health reasons, I am sure most people are the same, they are looking at ways to be healthier and improve their digestion, rather than a 'quick easy' weight loss fix though how going gluten free can be considered that is beyond me, its a pain in the *kitten*!0 -
I hearya. Strange that so many people assume gluten-free = carb-free or even calorie-free. But a lot of people see the world through their own particular filter rather than do some research and learn some facts. I didn't eliminate gluten and dairy from my diet for weight control. I did it because my doctor proved to me that those foods were causing my migraines and certain other health problems. There are plenty of gluten-free/dairy-free foods I can eat and still gain weight if I'm not careful, LOL0

As a Celiac I am sick of people going gluten free to be low carb. Gluten free is NOT A DIET, it's a dietary preference and/or requirement!
People need to educate themselves.0 -
I am not gluten free I dont eat crap digestion is fine I have managed to lose some weight My son went gluten free told me it was a good idea asked my nutrionist and she asked me why I said to eat better lose more weight etc she said if you are not celiac dont no benefit and a real pain in the *kitten* so I didnt and I guess I am doing just fine my son is still gluten free he feels good losing weight so I guess to each their own if you are suffering from celiacs disease or feel its beneficial go for it if not and dont think thats for you should be fine as well0

I understand your concern. I don't do either gluten free, or carb free. From my understanding some people have health issues with gluten, and they should avoid it. Others have issues with blood sugars, and need to limit sugary carbs. Some are lactose intolerant, and need to avoid dairy. Some people don't have any of those issues, and can eat anything they want, as long as they maintain a caloric deficit, they will lose weight.
We all need to find our triggers, our food sensitivities, and avoid them. Not all diets are good for everyone.0 -

There is gluten intolerance too, its not just celiac or fine, there are people who can handle some gluten, but not much so have spelt flours etc, then there are people who cannot handle that but dont need emergency treatment if they come into contact with it and THEN there are celiacs who are allergic.
So its not just celiacs who benefit from being gluten-free, others do too.0
