Does MFP automatically decrease my calories as needed to continue to lose weight? If so, when? If not, how do I know when and how to do so?

I did it after about 10 lbs... and eventually tweaked it to my own plan based on my experience. I think 10 lbs is pretty good... if you want to reset your goal after 5 lbs it may change a little... it may not. Mine went from 1660 to 1640 or something after 10 lbs. It's almost nothing.

Yes, as long as you update your weight regularly.

So it did it automatically? I have lost 11 pounds so far and I did not notice that it changed. Maybe I missed it if it is that small of a change. Thank you!!

Yes, it will do that automatically. It will be a very teeny change overall. You won't notice dramatic changes unless you went to sleep and woke up six months later 50 lbs lighter :)

Depending on how much you weigh, you may not get changes at all. For instance, MFP will tell me 1200 calories no matter if I'm 120 or 100 lbs. They had this as my goal for .5 lb a week or for 2 lbs a week and at almost all activity levels (all but the highest.)

No problem and awww thanks so much! I've been a slacker lately (um for four months now?) so it was nice to get an unexpected boost there :)

You can adjust them yourself to be sure by clicking "goals" at the top of the page from your home page. Then click change goals and it will recalculate it for you.

When I reached 10lbs, it did ask if I wanted to change my goals, but the total calorie goal didn't change from 1200, but I have noticed that when I workout, more workout calories are being added to my total calories (i.e. today I burned over 900 calories and my calorie limit went from 1200 to 2100.

It should prompt you to reset your goals every time you lose 10 pounds.

I may be wrong, but I do not believe it will change on it's own or prompt you IF you used custom as I have. I have never seen it or noticed it changing on it's own, I do it myself every time I pass another 10 lbs.

Ooops so sorry if I led you astray--I honestly thought it did adjust. I guess just do it when it asks you every 10 lbs? (It won't make a difference between those pounds, so seriously don't worry about it unless it asks you.)

It never prompted me to change my goals ..... hm, I guess I need to investigate this.
