Thanksgiving Dinner tonight-What can I eat?!

Hello.
I have another question. Again. Might sound ridiculous or someone may be wondering the same thing! (I hope..)
It's our family's thanksgiving dinner tonight. EVERYTHING thanksgiving-ish food will be there. Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, sour cream, salads, ham, perogies, pies, wine etc etc etc.

So. Can someone throw out an idea of what I should be eating/what I should be avoiding? I love the feedback from people here. Really motivates me!

What I would eat is the turkey, any fresh vegetables that might be included as long as they aren't swimming in a mushroom sauce and salad. When my family gets together for a holiday meal I usually bring 2 or 3 dishes to share that I can eat such as fresh green beans, cauliflower or asparagus, and a sugar-free, low carb dessert.

We had Thanksgiving Dinner yesterday. I checked the food database on here beforehand to give myself an idea of how many calories were in the typical Thanksgiving offerings, helped me make my choices at the table.

I would avoid or eat less of the mashed potatoes, perogies, desserts and alcohol, and fill up on the turkey, vegetables, salad. That being said, nothing wrong with treating yourself to a little bit of everything on a holiday. You can probably find someone to go for a walk with you after dinner to burn some of those calories!

You should be eating the foods you want and enjoy and avoiding foods you don't enjoy, it's a special occasion. Tomorrow get back on track

I had everything...except potatoes, and the cranberry slop out of the can.

LOTS of turkey and gravy, squash, corn, peas, stuffing, and even a HUGE dinner roll slopped with butter :)

As said before, tomorrow is a new day, enjoy your dinner

AGREED! Don't force yourself to eat anything you don't like 'just because', but I think Thanksgiving is an acceptable time to overeat a bit. :)

Here's what I usually do....I have all the foods I want...ONLY I have a tablespoon of it if it is loaded with fat & calories. That way, I get a taste, but not all the guilt and I don't undo all my hard work. I also don't feel I deprived myself (and yes I have a glass of wine).

Eat everything you like. Use portion control and if it fits into your calories, go for it. Make sure you talk a walk before and after your supper.

There is NO reason to deprive yourself of ANYTHING at ALL. This is for life. Are you going to cut out everything for the rest of your life?

I still drink beer (18 on Saturdays) and eat pizza, fries, whatever I want.. and have gone from a size 20 to a size 14 in just 90 days.

Edited to say that #1 your calories arent "reset every 24 hours..
and #2 you didnt gain weight in one day.. you wont screw it up with one day of eating. I have a cheat day every single saturday, where i can go over up to 4000 calories! I have not gained one time since i started June 28th of this year.

enjoy yourself!! Just get back to it tomorrow!

^This^. You need to learn how to eat in the real world. Keep your calories low, but nutritious, during the day, prior to your meal. But do not go the day w/o eating prior to the big meal. If you go into the Thanksgiving meal starving, you will probably overeat. Remember portion control.

I also go by the 3 bite rule for the decadent food. Studies have shown that you get all the taste and decadence from the first 3 bites. After that, you are just eating the food because it is in front of you. Take your 3 bites of dessert and push it away.

Get some exercise in if possible. Opens up the calories bank a little.

I'm not with my family for Thanksgiving today, but if I was I'd eat whatever I want... but slowly. The slower you eat the more you'll give your brain time to trigger than you're full and not overeat too much.
