So... I have recently relapsed and one thing I find when depressed is my sleeping patterns go haywire.
I will sleep during the day and during the night will not be able to sleep.
In australia it is 1am and was lying in bed with my eyes shut for over an hour but I have so much energy during night time. It's crazy.
Can anyone relate? And know how to change this..... I am on school holidays but am back in 2 days sooo I don't know how this is even going to be possible /:

It's a struggle... but maybe read .. you'll fall asleep. But set your alarm so you get up the time you normally would for school and *don't* nap. You'll be exhausted enough tomorrow night to sleep. Just stick to it with no naps and it will help. some herbal sleep aids can help as well.0

I used to be like you. Ask your doctor about Trazadone.0

I used to have trouble falling asleep at night and being tired during the day. Now I get up at 4:45am and head to the gym. I'm usually out within 10 minutes of lying down.
Also, don't lounge in your bed and watch tv or read or talk on the phone. Your bed is for sleeping, and if you only get in it when it's time to sleep you will train yourself.0 -

I already do go to the gym 6 days a week but will try not using my laptop in bed. Thanks0 -
Try a natural sleep aid. Here in the States we can get Hyland's brand Insomnia tablets. They work fantastic, and they're homeopathic and non-habit-forming. If you can't get those, try chamomile tea a little before bedtime.
Sometimes when my depression and anxiety are keeping me awake, it helps to just read until my eyes literally won't stay open, or to watch some boring television, or listen to soft music. It gives me something to focus on so my mind can't run away with me.0 -
I found that a lot when I get depressed, the thing that works best for me is about an hour to two hours before bed I used to do pretty intense workouts, anything from dance, to using the gymn equipment my mum frequently bought, and then after I worked up a huge sweat I'd sit and meditate as part of my cool down. As I breathed in I imagined sleep washing over me making my limbs heavy and my eyes heavy and as I breathed out I imagined all my excess energy leaving my body. It never failed me and I still use the techniques to this day whenever insomnia...or the hubbys snoring is keeping me up.0

HI,
I"m currently in the same boat. I'm trying very hard to stay awake during the day, but if I'm so exhausted I have to nap, I set my alarm for 1 hour only. This way, I won't get into the deep sleep which can wreck havoc with the night sleeping patterns.
It seemed to work yesterday for me. For ex: I was falling alseep sitting up...no kidding. Went for a one hour nap and got up. A few hours later it was the same thing so went for another one hour nap. However, last night I slept really well!! (This is something new to me).
This sleeping experiment was recommended by both my Dr. and councilor. Hope this helps. Please keep us informed of how you're doing.0 -

It sounds like you had a bad experience. Unfortunately, prescribing sleep / psychiatric drugs is mostly a guessing game. People sometimes go through many drugs before finding the one that is right for them. I know I had quite a few bad experiences before settling on a combination that made an enormous change in my life.
Maybe try a new doctor? Do some research on what's called a "referenced EEG".0 -
Looks like you need sleep hygiene.

These are some of the best tips to getting your sleep back on track without the help of any medications (natural or not). My psychologist had be follow these for the longest time, and by golly, it worked. It's all about setting up a routine, keeping your bed just for sleep, and relaxing yourself.0 -
If they have the product Midnite PM in your area try picking that up. It's all all natural, herbal remedy that doesn't knock you out, isn't addictive, and really has no side effects. It just helps you relax and kind of slow your brain down a bit so you can fall into a natural sleep. Best part is you can take it at 4am, even if you have to get up in 2 hours, and not feel groggy from it since it's NOT a sleeping pill. If they don't have that, then try picking up some magnesium (powder) at a health food store. Midnite PM has magnesium in it which is the main ingredient that helps to calm and sooth the body.
I used to just take magnesium to help with body aches because I discovered my diet was deficient in it, but then learned that it also helps you sleep but in a natural way.0 -

Yes. I mentioned two in my earlier post.0 -
If you've relapsed, you need to see a therapist or psychiatrist again.0

I'm in the same boat as you, I see.
I have the hardest time getting proper sleep, especially when things have gotten down. One thing that I've found that sort of helps is that I have a lavender/chamomile pillow spray. I spray it on my pillows and blanket as I'm getting my bed ready for the night and that gives it just enough time for it to dry so when I lay down that's all I smell. I got mine from Bath and Body Works and it's lasted me over a year. Maybe you could try that?0
