Drivers License Weight... OK to lie?? ;-)

I don't really understand the point of lying on your DL. My state doesn't ask for weight, but if it did, I can't really think of a reason to lie.
<snip>
Explain this concept please.
When I was 15 (and getting my DL) I was extremely self conscious and insecure about my weight (still am). So, the scenario is that a stranger at the DMV asks me my weight in front of dozens of other DMV customers.
Yeah -- I lied. But not by a hugely obvious amount. At the time, I weighed about 30 pounds more than I said, but I've always been a stocky muscular girl so it would be easy to convince someone I weighed a good bit less than I really did.
The reason for the lie would be because I was (am) embarassed about my weight.
My reasons for being embarassed are really all about insecurity and societal pressures & whatever.
Not the best reason, but nonetheless.0 -
As far as why people would lie about it, I just moved from a state that did not show the weight on the DL to a state that does show it. I'm embarassed at Target and Walmart and everywhere else when I pay with credit card and they ask for my DL. I feel like it's an invasion of privacy for those checkers to have access to such private info as my weight. I don't mind them verifying my ID, and that was great when I lived in a state with no weight on the license, but now I hate it each time they ask to see it. It's personal!0

As someone who used to wait tables & serve alcohol & who has carded thousands of people (yes, I was the b**** at the restaurant who carded you even though you're 40. ) -- I NEVER bothered to look at an ID long enough to look at someone's weight.
As for the person earlier in this thread who said she's a cashier and she DOES look at people's weight -- :noway: Your job is to is either verify their name (if they're paying by check/credit/debit) or verify their DOB (if they're buying alcohol/tobacco). Why would you even waste your time looking for their weight on the ID? Sure, it just takes a second, but those seconds add up.
Now, as I posted above, I did lie on my license 10 years ago. I recognize the reason is because I'm insecure and I do think it's silly of me. In reality, whether my license says I weigh 215 or 160, the person looking at my ID can still see that I'm fat! :laugh:0 -
Banks, sometimes I wish I could be a guy for these reasons. It seems to be a girl thing, ya know?
We lie about our weight and our age! Not all women, of course, but it is a stereotype that many of us play into.
I didn't understand it untill I reached 29. Then I realized that I shall be 29 as long as I can pass for it. I never understood lying about weight until I started gaining weight. At first it was wishful thinking. (You are somewhat familiar with my weight situation) I never really believed I could struggle with weight. Now, its shear humiliation.
I realize that people can see me, but there is something psychological about not having that number etched in stone anywhere but on my MFP profile or my medical record. Those two places are safe for me, but my government identity..... not so safe.
I recognise that it is really petty and like Jib pointed out, they can still see me. It really is insecurity.0 -
Whoops, I meant to put UD-but then again...everyone on here is so helpful that they bash what I said. Oh well, people just can't seem to grasp that we're human and make mistakes.0

As a former EMT, I have never once looked at a patient's driver's license. One, I'm not sticking my hands in your pockets. There could be needles in there. Two, EMT's get accused of theft all the time. No way am I touching your wallet. Three, EVERYONE lies on their license anyway, so we assume that the listed weight is incorrect. When you spend all day picking people up on stretchers, you learn how to estimate weight very quickly, and when in doubt, you go with a lower dose. You can always increase it later if need be.0

mine says tons of fun
jk, I dont need to have a weight on mine in Pa lol0 -
Also, when I tended bar, I looked at the license long enough to see the birthdate and verify that the picture matched the person. I didn't care one bit about any other info on the license.
If it makes you happy to have a lower weight on the license, there's really not a real-world consequence to lying about it.0 -

OK I guess, I still don't see why it matters though. Women, you are enigmas wrapped in riddles.0 -

Yeah we are. I don't even get myself half the time.:laugh:0 -

I don't think anyone was bashing you MaidofAstelot. They were just correcting the error so other people reading it would understand. Some people are easily confused and, you are right, don't translate it correctly in their heads when they read a mistake. Nothing personal :flowerforyou: Yup, you made a mistake. I do that once in a while too - just don't tell my husband or boss that! no biggie.
Oh, and my DL weight is wrong. When I renewed, it was about 30 lb less. Now, even though I gained back everything I lost last year, it is about 10 lbs over my current weight. I have 4 years until I can renew - you can't get a new license with a new pic until you renew - they just print your old pic. If I ever get pulled over they will think I am not that person  Just 'cuz I look so different from that pic.0 -
I should clarify something...In my state, (at least 20 years ago when I was an EMT,rules may be different now) EMTs do not give medication. Only paramedics do. My father was a paramedic at the same time that I was an EMT, and I completed Paramedic School, which is why I know dosing protocols. However, I, personally did not administer medication as an EMT. I have only administered meds as a paramedic trainee, under the VERY watchful eye of my Paramedic Supervisor.
Just in case any lawsuit-happy former patients are reading this.0 -
You guys have your weight on your licence? That sucks...0

I know it's off the original topic, but I had to comment because that happened to me! Well, I didn't get pulled over, but I used to smoke cigarettes & when I was about 19 or 20 I went into a convenience store to buy cigarettes and the woman REFUSED to sell them to me because she didn't think it was my ID. She thought I was underage (in her defense, I've always looked very young for my age. The woman at Walmart didn't want to sell me an R rated movie the other day -- I'M 25!). I said "If that's not me, why do all my credit cards & checkbook have that same name?" (while pulling everything out of my purse to show her) and do you know what what she did then? She said, "I don't know, you probably stole some girl's purse." :noway:

Crazy people.
This happened to me when I was buying liquor. I worked next door to the party store and even cashed a check there. When I colored my hair, I had trouble there and even at a bar one time!0 -

I'm really sorry if you felt I was bashing you. I never said anything about you to make you feel that way, but all the same I never intended to upset you.
At the same time, something like that could really scare people. I felt it appropriate to make the statement I did.
Yes, I do grasp that you and everyone else on here are human. But as a human, I'm allowed to speak my opinion and correct any mistakes I see if I chose to do so.
**edit for spelling**0 -
I color my hair. :blushing:
I lie about my age.
My weight on my DL is 105, which is what I weighed when I got it. I now weigh significanlty more than that, and don't plan to change it on the license! :drinker:0 -
I think it's ok to lie because in our society I feel some people are very judgemental when it comes to numbers.
Weight, height, waist size...etc. there is a lot of pressure to be smaller. I don't want people to know/see my weight because it's nobodys d*mn buisness but my own, my doctors, and my MFP'ers :blushing: :blushing:
As long as it isn't hurting anyone, who cares if you lie a little bit?0 -

Crazy people.
Happens to me all the time (not for cigs or booze), my daughter is 6 years old and everyone seems to think that I'm her big sister (I had her when I was 18).0 -
Is it weird that my driver's license weight is 30lb HEAVIER than I am? Every time I go I keep forgetting to change it...0

You Guyz ROCK!!!! Love the comments! :flowerforyou:
So I renewed my DL yesterday, good for 8 (not 10 years), in Oregon. The woman behind the counter turned the computer screen around for me to see and asked if I wanted to update anything. Just the hair color to gray..... I'm still a female, I said!
I kept the weight the same...... nostalgia for a slimmer time? Goal for the future? Too lazy to change?
The Picture.... now there's another thread......... mine was BAD! :grumble: :noway:
I wore a cool leopard blouse and it hardly even shows up! :brokenheart:
Banks: what can I tell ya? Us Girlz are more fudgey on numbers than Guyz. Interesting when I talk to people about weight loss, women don't give their specific weight, but how many pounds up/down. Men say their actual weight. Go figure!?0
