Advice for increasing calories w/o increasing carbs?

I'm keeping my carbs low and I'm feeling MUCH better for it but I'm worried I'm putting my body in starvation mode because I'm not getting enough calories. I usually range between 1100-1400 calories per day. I'm also rarely hungry, which intensifies the problem.

I also haven't been exercising because I just got over a nasty flu that got lodged in my chest and made breathing difficult. Now that I'm looking to start that up again, I'm especially concerned.

Any suggestions or advice?

  • You can eat a lot of salads that have 400-500 calories with barley any carbs, cheese has calories but almost no carbs, eggs and meats are higher in calories but very low in carbs as well.

Thank you for posting this because I was wondering the exact same thing. I switched up my settings and my cals were upped to 1800 and I was having a hard time figuring out how to up it all but everything still be good. Special me, it didnt even dawn on me to put more stuff in my salad.

That's a lot of mythology so I would forget about that. http://www.drmcdougall.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=17541

But in general if you need more calories on low carb then eat more fats and oils - assuming your protein is already up where it should be.
