laid up due to injury, how to stay positive?

I had my personal best workout last Wednesday, and then Wednesday night hurt my back leaning over a table for too long at the wrong height. I thought i had recovered from a previous back injury in a car wreck, and was doing so well, and now this. Has anyone else had to take off workouts due to an injury, and, how do you cope with it? Looks like I will be out total of two weeks at least.

Being ingured SUCKS plain and simple. This however DOES NOT have to stop your progress. Especially if you are only out two week. Your body will be in almost the same place in two week. I can't stress enough to take it slow when you get bact to it. You don't want to cause an even worse injury. Work through it because you know what the alternative is... NOTHING! You will get there as long as you don't stop! Good luck!

Let your body heal. Don't push it! Watch you calories and take care of yourself! If you go back too early you could cause more damage!

    You could

    1) Do some reading to keep your head in it (on eg postural health, programming, etc)

    2) Distract yourself with a more sedentary hobby you might have put to one side. (Though thinking of sedentary hobbies that don't involve at least some leaning is kind of hard... cooking, crafts, playing instruments etc all make subtle demands on your neck & back. Writing, maybe, pen to paper?)
  • I hear ya! I have just found out about that I have a medical condition that makes working out/losing weight super difficult...as if it's not difficult without an injury or medical problem. I have decided that I'll still make it work. You can do it! It will be a test but you'll come out on top!

glad you posted this as I was just going to post something similar. I had hip surgery a little under a week ago and am going to be completely down and out for three months, full recovery six months. Stay positive can be tough...I wish you luck!

I was going to post the exact same thing. I have a chronic back issue that flares up couple of times a year. I just started working out regularly like a month back and the pain struck again. Initially i thought i will be back to atleast walking in 2 weeks, doesnt look like.

I am just watching my diet thats all you can do. And diet actually is the most important thing for weight loss. I have read some threads here people losing like 50 lbs without any exercise. of course u might look flabby without working out, but we need to worry about that later once our injuries are healed.

im doing these online courses related to my profession so that keeps me distracted. pick an activity you didnt have time for before, that will keep u going . or some activity (not physically challenging of course) with friends or at the community center just to take u away from ur routine n keep the blues away

it is tough even for me, everyday i a challenge. i keep praying for the scales not to move up :)
