Do some bacon labels lie?

The grocery store has freshly cut bacon in the meat case and it's label says it is 250 calories for about 2 slices...then the grocery store sells their store brand, pre-wrapped bacon (in the plastic with the preservatives etc)....the packaged bacon says it is 35 calories per slice....but the slices look fatty, big, and are also called "thick cut." they look as big as the meat case bacon. How could it be only 35 calories?

Does it have a weight measure per serve, rather than per slice? Perhaps that's where they're tricking you. So it's say 35 calories per 20g (I'm in Australia), rather than per slice?0

not sure about calorie wise, but yes all labels lie.... the news covered this recently. Foods arent required to list all ingredients, theyre trying to make it illegal to not list something.0

35? Wow That sounds crazy. If you look through the food db on MFP you will see bacon from 60 cals for wimpy thin slices up to about 100 cals for thick cut. Cooking has a lot to do with it too. Frying in a pan producing a greasy bacon slice vs a method that drains the grease can save you 20-30 cals per slice. The 250 for two slices , pan fried, could be pretty close.0

It matched the weight per serving. they are huge, but melt off to a smaller size after cooking. It scares me that it could be 100 calories not 35.0

Certainly sounds odd! I'd be contacting the company and double checking!0

Thank you! I want to find out. How do I contact the company? It is a grocery store.0
