Any other low carb/atkins girls?

Hey guys!!! I'm in the first 3 weeks of the Atkins diet where I'm supposed to have less than 20 net carbs. I'm having a hard time meeting my calorie goals and staying under in carbs. I'm not hungry at all, but I'm still no where near my calorie goals (I'm averaging like 800 cals a day). I'm eating hummus, veggies, meat, eggs and protein shakes and am at 18 net carbs and am over in my cholesterol... hmmmm What do y'alls diets consist of?

I eat almonds and other nuts, eggs, veggies, mushrooms, meat, fish, butter, peanut butter, sugar free jello even though aspartame is evil, and lots of water and green tea. Gets boring and I added some fruit after the first two weeks Berries and citrus. Nothing processed and no sodas. Protein powder is my friend. Coffee with cream on the odd occasion.
  • I've done low carb before....never quite that low.....but it was successful short term....just couldnt seem to stay with it. I'm having better success with counting calories and I think its something I can maintain. However, do what works for you has always been my motto!!!!

2 egg omelets stuffed with veggies for breakfast or lunch
for dinner-seasoned chicken breast with salad, lean pork chops, shrimp with okra, onions, garlic and creole seasoning.
Mission brand Carb control tortillas have high fiber, low net carbs, and taste just like reg flour tortillas. Make great burritos or wraps for breakfast or lunch.
Atkins daybreak breakfast bars sometimes for breakfast. Hazelnut is my fave.
Almonds, peanuts, mozzerella light cheese sticks, sunflower seeds, avocados. (Wholly Guacamole 100 cal packs are great and convenient)
EAS AdvaneEdge protein drinks. You can blend the strawberry flavor with 1 cup of frozen strawberries and it makes a huge cup of what tastes just like strawberry frozen yogurt. The chocolate flavor tastes like a YooHoo chocolate drink.
Lots of veggies. lots of spices to keep things interesting.

I did Atkins for about 14 months and decided if I'm going to workout I need more carbs. But I atte eggs, bacon for breakfast everyday, lots of veggies (it's hard to stay at 20, I know) and I ate lean meats and almonds. I have since upped my carbs to about 100 a day and I actually have energy now. Best of luck to you :)

Thanks everyone!! I am only doing below 20 net carbs for 3 weeks, maybe a month tops and then will add more fruits and veggies. I LOVE fruit, so that's the hardest to stay away from. By Christmas, I should be at my goal, so I can slowly add in more carbs. The funny thing is, ever since I started eating low carbs, I don't even really like bread or potatoes or anything. I will always love pasta, but definitely can't have that.. lol
  • If you are in Phase 1 Induction (which it sounds like since you are only on 20g net carbs)- you are not supposed to be eating fruit or nuts, according to the plan. You can find all the allowed foods for induction on their website, there are soooo many great forums of knowledgeable Atkins followers out there! You can pretty much google any question you have about it followed by "Atkins induction" and get an answer right away :) Induction is only 14 days though, so I think you should be good to adding those things in for phase two. Like I said, go to the website, or even better check out the book at your local Library! :)

Here! I have some underlying issues so I'm doing very low to no carb, just started really getting into it recently (I spent a few weeks downsizing my carbs). My diet is pretty boring right now - various meats and other animal products, fat, coffee and tea with very small treats. But the weight is dropping again finally and I don't feel starved if I don't mess up and go over 10-20 carbs. I'm having the opposite problem with calories because of my high-fat coffee breakfasts (but the weight is still dropping!) but I'm going to downsize those and see if things start moving faster now that I'm in ketosis pretty hard.

I'm a type 2 diabetic so I really have no choice but to eat low-carb.

Just a warning though, a lot of people here don't like 'low-carb talk' because they think they're God's gift to fitness. You might get lectured from everyone and their mom for posting this.

There is a low-carb group forum where you can get better feedback.
