I tried a pair last Sunday for my long run. Honestly I can't say I felt any different in terms of performance but I did feel a little less beat up the following day, whether that was the socks or just improved fitness is impossible to say. (I also have made a habit of wearing compression shorts or tights for long runs for the same reason - my legs feel far better than they did before I adopted compression garments.)

There is actually some good science behind compression garments for improved recovery - it's reasonably well established that compression socks improve blood flow in your legs while at rest, it has yet to be demonstrated that they have the same effect while running.

I will wear mine on runs if

    a) the run is very hilly (like trail)
    b) my calves are tweaky already
    c) it is cold out and I don't want to wear tights or capris

I like it personally. Seems to keep me from cramping up a bit
  • I do, but only because I like a specific type of sock when running. I know I'm picky but when I find something I really like I stick with it.

    I love these:

    Those aren't compression socks.
