Where did those extra 60 pounds come from?

I am new to my fitnesspal, introduced by my daughter who was recently dignosed with Diabetes. I don't know how but I certainly know why I gained 60 pounds over 10 years.. It wasn't overnight, but I managed to go beyond what my petite 5'3" frame should be allowed to carry. It happened when I joined a Power Yoga class at work and tried to keep up with the thin 20-somethings. I ended up with a miniscus tear in my right knee and after that surgery, followed 3 more various surgeries. So I stopped exercise altogether and I ate and ate. Not just healthy foods, because I am all about healthy and organics but the Haagen Daz and the return of the Big Mac attack came creeping in, disguised as my best friends! And do I love to bake! So gradually my size 10 jeans were unwearable and my mediums grew to 1X in my shirt sizes. So when my daughter and I recently joined in on a diabetes walk together, we both made a vow to slim down by Christmas. I have already lost 1 lb. so far but am working in goals of 20 lbs at a time. Can't wait to restart my yoga classes but this time, I'll do it smarter and just concentrate on MY progress, not my neighbors! Good luck to everyone, love this site!

Welcome! I know where my extra 60 lbs came from, too, but all that weight is a real strain on my 5'5" frame (poor knees and hip joints took a beating at that size and hurt a lot) so I'm on the downhill side of my journey with 20 lbs to go. As a (lapsed) Lifetime Weight Watcher member, I like how they tell you to concentrate on losing just 10% of your weight at a time. That broke it into small, bite-size pieces for me. You're in the right place!

Great job on losing what you have so far. And yes, small goals are always more attainable than big goals. Just keep it going! The important thing I learned about myself is to like who I am. (Yoga helped with that) But at the same time, I don't have to like being not healthy. Have a great week! :)
