I like 30 as a minimum too. Sometimes get up to 50!x
  • For those who eat over 40g in a day, does it cause any issues? I was just reading about how a very high fiber diet can cause blockages in your intestines which happens to be a big fear of mine.

I haven't heard of that but I'd assume it would be caused by using fibre supplements. Anyhow you have to have lots of water when you eat plenty of fibre to help it pass through you easily.

Thanks. :) I love my fiber, but I know sometimes too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. Just trying to be cautious!

I've read this as well, but it also said that you'd have to eat upwards of 100g of fibre without taking in any water.. musta been a different article.

It's not bad for you, but you do need to build a fiber "tolerance" if you don't want to have "digestive issues". Just add a bit of fiber every day..

It only causes issues if rapidly increase your fiber intake or if you are not drinking enough water. If you are getting your fiber from whole foods and not supplements, getting >40g should be ok. A good rule is to never over do it on one particular nutrient, balance and moderation are a part of a healthy diet :)

I eat somewhere in the area of 45 a day. No issues here :)
  • A lot lower than the other people on here, but whatever: around 20 g.

I am a vegetarian and have had a high fiber diet as long as I can remember, it has never caused me any issues. I would warn against adding too much fiber all at once though, if you're not used to it that's when you can get in to some issues. Add fiber slowly, and make sure you drink plenty of water. Blockages would be the result of too much fiber and not enough water.

I'm on thyroid medication and too much fiber interacts with the medication's absorption. Too much can also inhibit the absorption of some vitamins, too.

Fruits and vegetables, beans, ground flax seed, whole grain foods, and I have these tortillas - Mission Brand Carb Balance tortillas- that have 13g fiber each. They're really good, too.

My diary is open if you want to check it out and take a look at others too to get some ideas.

*this* I started at 25g/day and am working gradually up to 50g/day. I increase by no more than 2-5g/day/week to allow my system to acclimate. I'm at 35-40 and that's been working for me.

    35-40 without trying.

I rarely drink water but I haven't really had any major issues.

I do it because I hear it makes up for carbs

I take husk for fiber and 2 glasses of water right after. The fiber is similar to a spnoge where it expands when it is saturated which is why you need water. I never had a problem so I think you will be fine as long as you drink water.

I average 50-60 ish. I don't take fiber supplements though, it's from fruits, veggies, beans, split peas, etc.
