Anybody see 20/20 tonight?

I'm watching 20/20, and i highly recommend it if you have the stomach, about a new weight loss quick fix about how you stick a tube up your nose and get fed 800 calories for 2 weeks and that says you should lose 20 pounds in 10 days, with of course a little asterisk at the bottom. it was so gross. the dr that does it is overweight and says he has had it done. it obviously doesnt stick too well. cant have anything on it but water, coffee, or tea. what kind of life is that. you can lose weight doing anything but how many people honestly think this is going to teach them how to work out and eat healthy.

I saw a show once about brides that were doing this for their wedding day. People are nuts, so are the doctors that perform something so stupid.

It's sad that so many people are SO LAZY that they resort to measures like this for a quick fix.

I'm a teacher, I can't tell you how many parents have actually blamed me that their child isn't learning (or even that their child isn't working above grade level even though they are meeting grade level standards, not good enough for their kid, I guess). I tell the parents about their child's inattention, lack of participation, and poor effort in class work and homework... but yet it is still ALL my fault. Do I take some of the blame? You betchya. But ALL of it, heck no. A kid can't just show up, sit at his/her desk and learn. They have to actually TRY. It's the same with weight loss. No magic solutions. Just hard work and determination.

I didn't see the show, but I do know for a fact that loosing weight isn't the challenge; changing your lifestyle to KEEP it off is the challenge. I can say that I was up and down in my weight for years, the most lost was around 35lbs, but as soon as I hit the "magic number", Carls Jr. Here I come for one of those 6 dollar burgers! Now, I've decided that I needed a lifestyle change, I needed to get off my butt, and MOVE.. Move something; ANYTHING, and I did. I hated not being able to find a parking spot close to the door at the store, I could only walk a short distance before pain set in.. "Oh, it's just the arthritis in my knee/hip/ankle/whatever".. Then, I actually started moving the joints, and with the help of a little glucosomine, they no longer hurt, I can walk as far as I want, I ride a bicycle now that I don't believe I look like an elephant on a flea's back! I still have a long way to go, but as I said, my lifestyle is different now, I eat different foods, healthy foods, and actually feel "left out" if I don't get to do the bike ride, or the weights for a day.. Imagine that, I used to hate to even get off my butt, and climb the stairs to go to the bathroom, now I look forward to a 10 mile daily bike ride!!!

Yes, anyone can get the fat sucked out of them, or starve themselves, but to keep it off, requires something much deeper..

Yes, I saw it. The woman walked around with a tube in her nose. I thought it was nuts.

At the end the show the woman threw all her clothes out that were too big after the tube came out, but others Doctors that the show asked for comments on what they thought of the diet said that she should keep all those bigger clothes because this kind of diet she will gain all that weight back because it is not a realistic way of eating.

Yes i saw the show too! crazy! what ppl will do to lose weight!. also that one guy who had 90 surgerys to look like a human ken doll. wow.

if the ppl with the tube diet realized that weight is coming right back on, b.c your not teaching yourself a healthy lifestyle. there is no quick fix
  • I saw that segment on the show as well. I thought it was pretty disgusting that the blonde appeared to be more concerned about her looks than trying to live a positive healthy lifestyle. I wonder what message she is sending to her young daughter. I thought the doctor from Yale (I think) had good insight - the tube feeding isn't much different than sticking a finger down your throat. I guess vanity does play a large part of some peoples lives. I may not lose it quickly but I am sure I won't be putting it back on anytime soon.

i saw the guy with the tattoos. that was just sad. that tubing said 15,000 people have lost weight and kept 80% off for a year. they didnt say how many people have had it done or how much each person lost. not really any facts and sure wasnt being published in a legit magazine.

Makes me wonder about the Doctor - with all the research out there that says eat less/move more, and he's advocating this scheme? I think he shouldn't be allowed to practice medicine!
  • What exactly is the purpose of having the tube through their nose? Why can't these people just sip on the liquid through a straw with their lips?

    Congrats! and well said.
As a BTW, the latest studies have shown that taking glucosamine has no greater efficacy than placebo, so it was your
    exercise that made the difference.
